Videoformat

Only a theoretical question.

I will make an animation. Later I will edit it. In which video format should I save the animation? In other words which video format is the best for editing the video and improve the quality?

Thank you.

there a many lossless formats, the one you use might be specific to the software you use to edit. Once you have your final (and an untouched copy of the original) you can save down to smaller formats.

  • My advice is to render out an image sequence instead as that can be changed to anything later without issues. It also helps if the render crashes. You can pick up where it left off before the crash.

  • Whether you save the render out as a video file or an image sequence, use a lossless format, then (as mentioned above), compress the file to the appropriate compression scheme for the intended viewing platform. This is to avoid artifacts and other problems associated with trans-encoding compressed files.
