Renders that Look like Photos? Forget it!

  • There was a Carrara user that posted a render of a Howie Farkes scene to his gallery and it was removed because the gallery mod thought it was a photo and not a render- even though Howie is one of DAZ's PAs, and the scene had been recently on sale, as I recall. Go figure.

Hmm... might that have been the reason mine were removed? LOL!

According to a Google search I did one of the posts was at this address:

HDR photos that have been tonemapped in, well, less subtle ways curiously end up looking rather like CG images.  There is this odd reciprocity between HDR images and CG rendering that amuses me.

I agree with op.  I enjoy viewing photography, there are billions of photo's capturing specific moment's in time, to me art is not photography.  Art is an expression, illustrates a story.  To make a long story short, Lol !!!  There are no right/wrong methods to creating art, just preferance.  I do not oppose anyone trying to achieve photo realistic renders, some are amazing.  I believe those that tend to progress in photo realism, lack skills in post work, such as in photoshop.  I specifically am one of those individuals.

I became fascinated with 3D, viewing animations such as Toy story, Legend of the guardian, etc..... playing video games.  For many years, I was able to create art on canvas, replicating comic book covers, etc........  on a piece of paper using color pencils.  Computer 3D has taken art to another level.  As I began 3D art, I realized I lacked talent in postwork, so I began rendering base figure model portraits.  It was much easier for me to learn portrait realism then postwork.  Someday I hope to be able to learn postwork and make my renders pop out, as I envision.

Sharing an image from Legends of the gaurdian poster, type of image I hope someday I can learn to create.  Sometimes I do get real tired of viewing 3D portraits.

There's nothing boring trying to get something looking hyper-real. I have done it. The last time I tried was with the Olympia Cityscape. That set doesn't even have DAZ Studio material presets. You have to work on the Poser ones to get them looking right in DAZ Studio. I worked on them and the result was so great that someone on the "post your Iray renders" thread had to look twice because he/she thought she was looking at reference photos.

For some unknown reason to me, my posts containing these renders were removed from the mentioned Iray thread.

I post some of them here again. Checkout the promos for this product and compare to see what I did.

How long ago did you post them.  No sign of any removed renders.

They were around page 34 or below of that thread, I believe, around that time. I will go back to the beginning and work my way up and see if I see them.

OK, I found them. I wonder why the link that references one of them, the one that I posted here, is not working anymore? Anyway, they start on Page 16 of that thread.

Probably becaue they were posted prior to the Forum changeover.  The change in the number of posts to a page did put some post link references out
