For this one, I'm straying a bit from the original style. The field of view has to be bigger , but , of course , with some lost of détails on my main character. The next serie certainly will more focused on the hero. Like my first prods.

But I really like the arabian atmosphère , or something like that. With a kind of ....dark Scherazade making a slave of a barbarian supposedly invading her palace.

    The lighting is superb.

Love this one. I think I've found my next thematic. Soldiers in fantasy places :)

I do really enjoy the mix between reality and mythology. The choice of Minerva in the scene is , in my opinion a good choice , no ?

A variation for egyptian theme. I try to find the best angle possible to not suppress character details.

These all look so un-DAZ (in a good way).  It would be fun to see WIP versions of these scenes--from viewport to finished image.

Yup , why not. This technic is near from the matte painting process. So it could be interesting , but after that , it's just a denoised-render retouched on photoshop. Not sure it's really really interesting. But I note the idea , maybe for a next work I'll show the workflow. :)

Two more , but with more SciFi inside. Just to test if my effect is alright with the mech details.

  • MaloneXIMaloneXI Posts: 174

and now , the step of creation :)

First step , a quick render , with full denoising. Just enough to eat some details to be closer to a kind of sketch. Some color masses , if you prefer.

Next , I'm slightly tarnishing the image to give it a look more... Dirty, with specific brushes in photoshop.
The goal is to eat more détails , but with the pen, dosing corretly what I wanted to be more visible.

The next step , is for the tint , so it give the attempted atmosphere. Here , more a marchy atmosphere. So with a lite green tint, and play with contrast and light.

The final step is for the lighting. for the scene, the light comes from the cloudy sky , so , something diffuse. As the gorge is a bit foggy , it's easier to "cheat" by adding some white touches of white upon metallic parts that are more percuted by the light.

    Hope it helps :)
As you could have seen in my works, I'm not searching for realistic renders , the photorealism bothers me. And I've practiced Photoshop for more than 20 years. So now , I'm scripting my different actions. This script , that dirtying the picture was the big part of the work , to obtain something arty. More about a sketch , a study , or a conceptual drawing. In my opinion , it's giving more life in the work. I'm always starting with a denoised render because I realized that it was really close to what I did when I created some matte painting stuff , giving directly a base to be reworked.
For me , DAZ is just giving me the base to start somethng différent. I don't have a big computer for now , enough to play games , but not enough to make DAZ giving me something satisfying in less than 30 minutes huhu. And I'm not really patient lol. That's why , a lot of my work is more localised in unreal engine that gives me speed result. Unlike many here , I turn this weakness into a strenght. :)

These are wonderful, Frazetta level images.

Agree. Those years using Photoshop and great talent make a difference.

  • I think it's talent honed by lots of experience. One needs both.

Not fantasy style , this time. But I really enjoy this asset , the vintage costume of Harley gives the red color all its importance in a dark composition.

I wanted to do something different . Not totally a fantasy work , but something ...mmm....dark ? Vampire are a good choice to play with some volumetric fog and this kind of things. A lite blue atmo , with some elusive color touches.

I'm proud of that first try. I may try a bit more the fog to be more visible , but it's on the way I think.

I really adore this one , and I must work this kind of effect. I regret to not have the computer to get a realistic render of that scene ^^'

I will create some works with plans of different scales. I really adore to put in opposition 2 characters , 1 normal , and 1 giant. I just have to find the best possible environment. :)

  • You seem to have a similar style to 'Brom', possibly (and I say this tentatively) even more 'heroic' than Brom.

Just... in awe. Brom was one of my art heroes in the '70's and '80's.

    Regards,

    Richard.

    Thanx a lot , friend.
Yep , now you say that , Brom is of course one of my heroe with Frazetta , Corben and others. Maybe he influenced me too ^^. Less detailed of course, but I'll try to make something cleaner, for now it's still a bit "sketchy".

That is such an old-school Conan cover, I'm actually getting nostalgic.

Ahaha , I'm glad it's giving you that mood :) It's still a good moment :) Like you re-discover an old comic hidden inside your mess :)

I'm not just to post an other work. I'm here for a good news :)
Many years ago , My bro and me were working on few stories. Some of them are still alive , like my comic in wip, and others are simply dead.
But last week , my bro reminded me about one of these stories. And he told me, that secretly , he told me about that he had continued it in secret, merging it with a story he had written himself. And I've found , like always , that my bro is really skilled about the art of writting histories.

And we have decided to give birth to a next comic book , but this time , we'll work together on it.

    Here it is :

Of course , we'll try to do our best directing stunning pictures , and be proud of the legacy of the different artists we have mentionned along this thread.
It will be a lot of work for sure. But it's a new big project, and we are really excited about it.

    Well, more to come :)

This style is what drew me to doing fantasy art wayyyyy back when.  My style is a bit different but definitely influenced by this type of image
