This has already happened to me a few times, and it's extremely annoying.
Sometimes something similar happens in the iray preview. Moving the camera fixes it.
I was using the ''direct to file'' option since it helps with render time. I guess using ''new window'' seems to be the only answer to this.

It doesn't really look likely, but have you checked that there is nothing that might be blocking the view - sometimes the calculations can be different due to the different division levels (by default) between render and drawstyle. Also check to see if you are looking through a gap in a model, if there are concave polygons (polygons with four or more vertices where the shape they form has an indent, such as a chevron) then that can get filled in and block the view.
