Dumb question: How to see HDRI lighting images in scene

Hi all,

I just got my first HDRI set and jumped right into it. I loaded it and the cameras up, which does not show any change in the viewport. When I render it's beautiful, but since I can't see it in the viewport posing is... Challenging. There must be a way to view it, but it's hard to google and I haven't found anything.

  • As far as I know, there isn't a way to preview the hdr until it renders out.  That doesn't mean there isn't a way, but I have not seen anyone on the forums say they have figured that out yet.

Using iray, you can change the viewport setting to iray view to see the HDRI. It requires some decent hardware though and may not be a realistic option on a low end machine.

(please don't mind the rest of the image. It's my current work in progress)

Use the AUX Viewport set to Iray. Hide it when making adjustments if it slows the machine down. I move the dome round using degrees. Start with 30 then 60 etc. and unhide the AUX to see the change, it may take a moment or two to redraw. If one of the changes takes it too far then try a setting in beteween, 60 to 90 so try 75 etc..

Thanks for the replies everyone! This is as I feared, though not too terrible. My should be able to handle it fine, though.
