Anyone have Poser 14 yet?

I see its for sale. They took out the cloth room, and some other stuff has changed, not sure if for the good. To me it seems this new release is more of a stepping stone to future changes.

  • I haven't, but I would certainly like to.  I still use Poser Pro 2014 because I had purchased a lot of materials from Little Design that only work in that version.

As usual, there's a free 21-day trial so you can test it out for yourself. Poser versions can co-exist, so no problems with installing it alongside an earlier version. Upgrade is $100.

    You'll like it if you...

    - want the latest versions of Blender's Cycles render engine (in Poser, called SuperFly) and Intel OIDN de-noising

    - often add backgrounds in your scenes, which is now much easier

    - use the Materials Room a lot, and could use some easier workflows and fixes

    - export FBX and Collada from scenes

    - use Tkinter to make graphical user-interfaces for Python scripts

    - want Poser to support the new Intel ARC graphic-cards.

    - don't care about using the (now removed) Cloth Room

Have they finally started making new, compelling content to rival DAZ3D?

thats the thing, right? It usually says, "and 2 gig of content", or some such, but not really showing what it is. Most is still from Poser 5 or something.
Cant remember what store, I think it was connected with Poser,  but they had several characters that worked in Poser that were really nice.

From what I've seen Poser 14 looks to be the last gasp. Everyone had such high hopes that Bondware would turn Poser's fortunes around, but nothing could be farther from the truth.

No cloth room?  Darn it.  How do we handle dynamic clothing?

I never got past Poser 11; Genesis 2 was my go-to figure via the DSON importer, which was not updated with modern python scripts, so I never upgraded Poser.  I with DAZ had open-sourced th eimporter as they did with some of the other software bridges...

They say they are looking at other cloth simulations and will add them in the future. They also say the Cloth Room might come back. Kind of odd messaging, tbh.

I did advance to Poser 12 & 13. Currently using vers 13 only because my old computer died and when I did the rebuild I put in only the latest version (btw, I fortunately had a good backup of all my Runtimes, so the rebuild wasn't too painful).

HOWEVER, I have given them ages to update DSON and they haven't. So, my goal is to take the time to reinstall Poser 11 with DSON so I can access my Genesis figures and associated props, poses and expressions.

Hmmmm. It's felt that way for a while now, TBH, but I really don't think it is. I'm a Poser user and content is still being developed and there is still development on the tool. I don't know what the heck prompted Bondware to release such a broken, stripped down version of Poser, but it does still seem “alive.” But it needs help, that's for sure.

I suspect you're thinking of RuntimeDNA or Hivewire 3D, both of which were stores that died and transferred their content to R'osity.

    No.

R'osity has a lot of vendors who make content for Poser, but they are far outnumbered by those who make content for Daz Studio. There are a sizeable number of vendors who have a beef with Daz and sell their stuff over there and not here.R'osity has a few unique figures which are modern and pretty good, but they just don't have the depth of content to rival what you can get at Daz. Look, there is really GOOD content over at their store, but there is no "killer figure" or content.

And, FYI, I'm a Poser user. I seldom use Daz Studio because it sucks at rendering clean line art (I really hate saying that, but it really sucks next to what Poser can do; and yeah, I know you (and others) can probably find a few illustrations and artists who are doing good work with Daz Studio... but I've looked at it and it's just  just okay and is quantifiably not as good as Poser. But that's hardly a surprise because that's not what Daz Studio was built for. DS totally rocks at producing incredible, photo-real images with stunning color and surfaces. iRay is MUCH better than Poser's render engines. Except when it comes to line art.
