Thanks all for the advice! Lots of good tips in there I wasn't aware of.
Sounds like I should wait until I see a store-wide 50% off again. Possibly a 1-month membership would net me an additional percent. And maybe a gift card for another 10%. That combination (50% storewide, member, gift card) is probably the most I could stack in perfect conditions. The things I had my eye on aren't older items so the outlet stuff doesn't help me so much.
Tokens... I only buy once in a while and they expire in 2 weeks, so not really useful for me personally.
Now I need to cross my fingers and toes and hope for a catch-up sale or similar from Black Friday, or an equally good sale for Xmas!
I'm sorry you're not getting good offers so far. Obviously, without seeing your wishlist, I can't tell, but my first thoughts are: are all of those Daz Originals under a certain price (this year people seem to be reporting mostly the base price of $25 and under, $20 if you want to be on the safe side), old enough (SKU under 85,000 seems to be a good bet), and not Daz+? Because you might have +100 DO's on your list, but only 5 of them qualify, and thus those 5 are mixed in the random generator with all the other things that qualify but are not on your list.
In the wishlist thread which I made specifically to help people not be disappointed, people mostly report getting stuff from their wishlist, so it seems that having enough right products in it does up your chances of getting something nice. Obviously, we're only on day 3, so there are no guarantees, and I also get that you might not want to do the work of scouring the store for something to add to it, but then it is what it is. If you do want to play longer, I recommend Utiltarian's excellent advanced filters (if you aren't using it yet) for filtering price range, hiding Daz+, and/or searching by ID range.
My wishlist is up to 57 items at this point - Daz seems to be adding items for me. I don't mind, but I've plowed through the store so many times and over spent multiple times to the point that any DO over 90 days old has been examiined and rejected multiple times. Some I will take as free items; the rest, for what I do, would be over priced at 99 cents. I'll be cleaning the wishlist after the sale.

I don't know. I've kind of given up at this point. A freebie would be nice, but I have a lot of content, and Renderosity and 3D shards aren't making me jump through all these hoops in order to maybe, possibly .0001% chance of getting something good. It just feels like a waste of my limited time and energy at this point.
Daz are doing straight-forward freebies too, just marketd as an advent calendar. Today's is a wreath, for example. I'm doing 3DShards and Renderosity too. 3DShards is doing a maybe freebie promo - not every day will be free for non-supporters. Rendo is doing 4 freebies a day, but they can be very old, incredibly quirky (gun hat) or not even for Daz (poser).
The calendar here is a chance for you to get a Daz Original from your wishlist - something you will have chosen - for free in addition to a brand-new freebie from the artists that sell here. I think it's is a nice thing to do - one freebie for everyone and one for those who've made a small purchase in the previous few days. Plus there are other random freebies throughout the sale based on the punches too. I don't know what to say if you feel putting things on your wishlist so you can get them free is jumping through hoops. Daz can't read minds. Even Santa works from a list.
If what they have done so far is an indication of what's coming, supporters will be getting a little extra on top of that day freebie while non-supporters will have the base product for free.
I am speaking exclusively about the "advent calander" part of this, not the PA freebies, which are nice to have and very generous of them to offer. The advent calander has not produced anything I personally would have any interest in adding to my product library. But I also know I am an outlier, and am extremely selective about the things I purchase. I won't ever just buy something because it's a "great deal" or because it might get me a slightly higher discount on something I may use. I don't have the funds or hard drive space for that. 3d Shards and Renderosity are doing straight forward freebies, similar to the PA offerings here, and I personally much prefer that. And I am/will be happy with it. And I am paring my wishlist here back down to the five items it originally was before all this.

I've reread their email, and it seems I misread it first time around. You're right - it looks like they're doing a freebie every day, supporter or non-supporter.
A little caveat on this one - if it's one with two tiers, and you get the free one, make sure you download the item ON THE DAY, as it will disappear from your downloads after that.

Yeah, same. I sent an email when I noticed they weren't in my downloads list, figuring since it was a new thing there was just a bit of unintended broken code somewhere, but I got a reply that this was a feature, not a bug. It wasn't disclosed anywhere that I could see, so I figured it might be merciful to warn folx here so no one lost more than what they already have.
No, it wasn't stated anywhere, and to make matters worse the order confirmation email literally says the download link never expires, which is false. Too bad, I liked that Yuletide hat
I have 23 Daz Originals currently on my wishlist. Two of which have SKUs that have four digits. One that is in the 80000s.
That's probably the issue then. The Advent Calendar runs for 31 days and has 2 things a day. So if you have less than 60 or so Daz Originals then it will have to offer you stuff that's not on your wishlist. Even if all 23 are valid options, it still has to open up to every other eiligible Daz Original in the store beause it can't fill the calendar with only your wishlist

Yeah, I thought it was really bad form to tell me "the magic disappears at midnight :)" (direct quote from email) when, like you said, we were told it wouldn't. Maybe they forgot to change the auto-generated text or something, but that's not on the customer.
I'm not going to debate with them on it... they can run their store how they see fit. But I'm certainly not going to take their communications at face value anymore.

I'm pacing myself too. I assume that I might not buy much on top of maintaining punches, but maintaning them is worth it for the calendar and nice list and on an off chance that there's going to be something later I want (especially that it's a new month, so I also have 2 Daz coupons to burn).

Every now and then I check their store, but then I read something like that and remember all the other issues, and I'm happy to not shop there.
Yeah, in general the stuff there (while well made) isn't anything I need/want enough to spend money on (with the exception of one vendor, so I have gotten a few of those). But in the reply email I was given a code for a "surprise" which I could redeem with my next paid purchase, and... um, well, I supsose they could've not even done that, but... "sorry you're having issues we won't do anything to fix, but spend money here and you can have an undisclosed item you likely won't be interested in** as a compensation for your troubles" -- really?
(**no shade to the quality, it's just that my interests are pretty narrow, so statistically it's most likely I'd never use it.)
My strategy as well, since I can do it with QG/Outlet items I was already interested in. It's kind of nice, really... a little something to look forward to, and easy to get logged into my tracking system right away without adding to the backlog I'm still working through from the awesome FG haul I made during the PA sale. (Good problem to have, I'm just very Type A and get stressed out if I can't track down everything in my library with ease.)

Tokens - the details are here https://www.daz3d.com/daz-tokens You can apply a maximum of 8 tokens per order for an extra 30% off most sale items (extra 45% off Daz Original sale items). You can bank tokens faster if you're a Plus or Premier member. Daz has also been giving double tokens on Mondays (and sometimes Tuesdays). So, if you catch a double tokens day and you're a Premier member (fastest accumulation), you can get 8 tokens for $20 which is quite impactful if you'll be building a big cart later.
Gift cards - They're usually offered for 10%, 15%, 20%, and on rare occasions even more. Sometimes they're a tiered deal where the discount gets better the higher your membership level. I anticipate at least one gift card offer before the end of this month, but it's impossible to predict the details or if that'll be the only gift card offer in this sale cycle.
If the products you're shopping for have the green "New" label, New Releases typically have the strongest discounts around the day they debut, and it takes a few months after they lose the label for them to enter the rotating sales for the daily Featured Artist Stores discounts. Sometimes Daz brings recent releases back for a catch-up sale - otherwise, the choice is usually between a quick buy or a patient wait.
For bulking out your library, you might consider checking the box "Only Bundles" at the top of product listings. You can also set the filter to Artist > Daz Originals to find just Daz Originals bundles. If you apply 8 tokens, Daz Originals bundles will give some of the deepest discounts on big sale days.
Wow, the reasons to not shop there just pile up.
One big one for me was messy licensing information too. With Daz, I can hope that they're actually making sure the products are not copies of some IPs (especially now with the editorial license gone), even if sometimes something slips through the cracks. I do pass on some inspired ones that feel too close to the original to me, but the trust is there. Shards don't have the same kind of trust, and last time I checked, there wasn't any unified format for licensing information.
Oof, I know this dilemma. It's okay to let punches lapse for a few days if you need groceries!

Re: the 3D Shards calendar: looks like there's a disclaimer today on the tiered offering, but I know 100% that wasn't there on previous ones. Maybe they got enough emails other than mine and realized they messed up bigtime, or maybe mine was enough. Who knows. At least they're warning people now, but I'm still feeling salty about how that all went down.
Back on the topic of Daz sales, kinda embarrassing that they got the name of their headliner product wrong in huge letters... twice. "Micro-BLENDS"?? Seriously, is there no copy editing at all?
