Is the cost for the paid thing each day always the same? I can't remember what mine was exactly, but it was between $3 and $4 (I think maybe $3.25ish). Is that based on the actual price of the thing or is it just the same across the board regardless of the specific item put in the advent calendar? Has anyone had anything offered to them today at a higher/lower price than that?

You mean the price you have to paid for the paid items? As far as I remember, it'll 2.99 everyday.

The base price of the items selected for the Advent Calendar on the other hands can vary, and 2.99 items seem to have a wider base price range (a bit over $30) than the free item. But you could end (last year at least) one day with a free item with a higher base price compared to the 2.99 item.

Today my free was a higher base price than my paid, though both were under $20. So apparently possible this year as well.

I know it's just the first day, but I think it may have been for nothing. My Day 1 advent calendar freebie is a t-shirt for Chip. (>_>)

My advice would be to add some more Daz Originals to your wishlist (I wager about 80-100 minimum, and they do need to be older and cheaper; having DO pro bundles will not do you any good). The more you have, the bigger the chance you will get something that is appealing to you: unless you already have a big wishlist full of old DOs, the calendar isn't really about the items you want, it's about the items you'll be able to use/be happy with and you might not buy but wouldn't mind getting for free.

For those struggling, poses might be a good option for you: they're usually cheap enough to be included, many are DO, and they're useable across all generations (with the free converter). Textures for outfits you already own might be another.

Got two items from my wishlist today. Free was $16.95 and in the 64k SKU range, and paid was also $16.95 and in the 88k SKU range. Happy with both, but freebie today is more appealing.

And I don't think anyone got D+ stuff last year, so I'd be mindful that you have enough after removing those from the tally.

Another strategy, now that bundles discount for items owned, would be to put individual items from DO bundles on your WL (ideally the ones you're more interested in, so you'd use them while waiting for the bundle to get a good sale). Then if you get them, the freebie wasn't "wasted" as it gets you a discount later.

Good idea! Not only it's a free gift (or a cheap one), but it also gives you a discount later on a bundle.

My advent freebie today is $20.95 base price (G8M outfit), and my paid item is $24.99 base (G9 outfit). Both from my wishlist.

    Starting great so far! laugh

  • My advent items: freebie had $15.95 base price, SKU around 69000, paid item was $16.95 base price with SKU around 84000. Both DOs, both items from wishlist. Good start .. thanks for the reminder thread!

  • My Paid, recently added to WL, is https://www.daz3d.com/sprig-fay-wings-for-genesis-8-males--females $18.95 SKU ~51000

No free Advent since I decided I didn't want to deal with Daz's Black Friday issues.

80-100??!! My gosh. I beefed up my wishlist from 4 to 75 and thought that would be enough. *sigh* Maybe I'm just too picky.

Well, consider that it's drawing from (potentially) 2 items a day for 31 days, so at the very least in that instance it would need 62 to work with, and it might have something coded in if it doesn't have much to pick from, it starts dipping into non-WL items so it's not too sure of a thing. For sure it's harder if you have specific genres you do or don't do, and if you have a lot of content already. I will admit a lot of my DO catalog consists of things that I may or may not ever use, but the probability is higher than some random skimpwear or V4 era stuff.

I'm back to picking over the DO, that are at the very least "acceptable". Good thing I have time today.

Yes, the calendar definitely isn't about only things you want, because you might get up shortchanged and get some stuff that isn't on the wishlist.

From my perspective, the best approach is "anything that you like enough and will use" or at least "anything that you would rather get than a set of textures for an outfit for Genesis that you don't own."

  • FrankTheTankFrankTheTank Posts: 1,481

off to a good start, both items were from my wishlist:

freebie was SKU 71571, base price $22.95, and paid offer item was SKU 92155 base price $24.99

  • Ok. 121 DOs on the wishlist now. Even a few older G9 items. Hope tomorrow's offering is better.

I have 12041 items on my wishlist but I still got offered a set of textures for an outfit for Genesis (8) that I don't own. (: So there's still some luck involved as well, it seems!

How much you spend may also factor into the quality of your freebie gift. I got a freebie - I got  https://www.daz3d.com/tutamanta-qoya . I don't really know why I got a freebie, but the paid item was $4.50 and too much for what it was. So I took the freebie.

  • Today we've got Carina HD for Robyn 8 as as free option (MSRP $19.95, SKU 64895) and MW Elisabeth for G9 for $2.99. Both are wishlisted items.

It's really a toss-up between two artists. I may go with the free option and pick up Xivon's Prague set with the extra cash.

Same here. My paid was asking for $9 (its base rice is $23) even though it was on sale for $2 last week. If that's the kind of 'deals' that Advent will be giving, then I'll be sticking to the free option each day

    Today's stats:

Freebie: base price $21, SKU 58703

Paid: base price $30, SKU 87904

    Both were on my WL.

Possibly relevant, possibly not: I have two punches and am not a big or frequent spender. (Mostly QGs once a week, and rare big hauls when the prices are super super favorable.)

  • Ok. I give up. Today's advent freebie is https://www.daz3d.com/mixies_baseball_hat. -_- Seriously? I'm done. I'm not even going to bother checking anymore.

I'm sticking to the free option as well -- because free -- but I wouldn't trust what the advent calendar is asking for the paid if it's early in the morning. Today mine was initially clocking at $14ish, and now it's down to $2.99.

ok, I still got another Advent Calendar freebie today, even though I bought nothing yesterday!

My freebie today is Baxter the English Bulldog SKU 79543 ($22.95) and my buy offer is The Safe House SKU 82506 ($34.95). Both items from my wishlist. All my punches are gone of course, but it does seem that the Advent Calendar is working the same as last year and the purchase from Sunday is still activating the AC freebie. I'll know for sure tomorrow, but a purchase every 3rd day should keep AC freebies active, so for me thats Sunday, Wedneday, Saturday, Tuesday... etc.

my paid ones have both been around $20 and definitely not anything I even want (or worth it, a pose set today)

My free was OK Shaved side dreads for genesis 3 and 8

buying Outlet hairs to keep my punches, those good value anyway

I am a base member though

  • My Advent items were a G8F dress ($20.95 base price) and a G8.1F dress ($23.95) as freebie and paid, both off my wishlist.

I think it's a page updating issue. Historically, paid advent calendar options were always at $2.99, not at some random discounts, so I'm guessing the website is slow to update after you open the calendar. So if an item isn't $2.99 when you open and it's something you might want more, I'd give it a little time.

Yeah, this was my thought. It seemed like it took longer than the usual changeover refresh, but... well, it is what it is, and at least it eventually fixes (so far, anyway).

Still, no punches and no 'product' purchase since friday, and got again a freebie (a mouso charactar that was on my WL, so thank you DAZ). I did bought a $1 GC yesterday just in case; while it does not give punches, last year did worked for calendar, so might as well try it and see what happens. I prefer to spend $1 that i will use later on something i will want, than waste $1 to 1.99 on something i don't want and be potentially disapointed by next freebie.
