I am not even ready for Christmas devil

A thought... maybe as you peruse the free selection today, toss anything you're considering on your WL if it isn't there already. They might be a decent guess for advent calendar fodder, as Daz has shown they're willing to offer them in a free gift selection. (Just a theory, of course, but...)

Excellent idea for those whose wishlists need som padding! They're definitely more likley to qualify.

Who needs Christmas when you have Daz sales? ;)

Yep. If I'm reading between the lines of today's free/1.99 offers, I bet they'll run the holiday sale very similarly to last year. When tossing stuff into my cart willy-nilly yesterday to capitalize on the wonderful stacking offers, I purposely kicked out any DOs that went into it, precisely with the holiday sale in mind. And now I see several of them in today's offers. laugh

I like the suggestion to add anything useful from today's selections to my wishlist. I have a feeling I'll be seeing them again.

Yes, today's offer feels much like the calendars from the previous years, so I'm hoping there's going to be one this year too.

    I had a $34.99 option in a $2.99 calendar slot last year: https://www.daz3d.com/forums/discussion/687961/there-s-always-another-sale-thread-discussions-only-pt-3/p97

I think the freebies were mostly around the $19.99 mark and under. The $2.99 offer also often had a lower base price than the freebie offer, but there appeared to be a higher ceiling on what could be offered.

Assuming the two lists today are a preview of what we can expect if there's a calendar this year, the ceilings appear to be $20.95 for the freebies and $24.99 for the paid items. I wonder if that means we'll be getting a lower paid item price this year, perhaps along the lines of Outlet pricing? I don't remember many opting for the paid items last year.

We may also have artist freebies to look forward to. Looks like the other place will be doing those again, starting November 30th. We certainly had some lovely gifts here last year. Could the ceramic critter from the members sale make a reappearance?

I was thinking today how cool it would be if the advent calendar was basically what today is... two codes with curated selections for each: one for free, one for $2. It would solve so many complaints, and probably generate more money for Daz as well if people could have an AND instead of an OR. I didn't take a single one of the paid items last year because I could choose to pay or I could choose a free gift. No-brainer. If it had been AND, there were multiple times I would have spent the dough.

It'd probably be easier to code, too.

I'm all for removing the "OR" from the advent calendar, because many times, I would have been happy to get the free one AND pay for the other one. In few cases, I actually picked the paid one.

But I think the way the calendar was handled (you have to have made purchases to get the free option), it would be a nightmare to set up as a collection of items with a code. There would be many people complaining the code doesn't work for them etc.

Well, I went through all the DOs for G9, G8.1 and G8. and expanded.my wishlist to 1458 items.

Definitely codes have a habit of having issues, although last year we got a lot of people complaining that their purchases weren't counting and should have, or that the daily item hadn't opened up, or... really, no matter what Daz does, there's a solid chance of it not working.

But why not just... do what they're doing now: same selection (maybe change it up every week or so), and a different code daily?

TBH they need to get rid of the "must have purchased" requirement. In past years, the PAs are gifting items for free, regardless of purchase. The other sites don't seem to require a purchase for the daily free thing. And then there's Daz with strings attached and requirements to meet. The optics are... well, not great.

we do get one free each day

a lot are standalone items, I just preferred the texture addon one day

are always hairs still too if I run out of choices, not ones I like but can be for the villains devil

So far this year, yes. I was referring to last year and this thread's original premise that this year might be like last year -- which it might still be once we get to December proper.

If it turns out that they have indeed gotten rid of it, then yay!

I'm a slow starter on the advent calendar - I can't sustain that every-day expenditure. That said, I expect I'll come away with treasure. I usually do! Anyway, Daz sales may be all the Xmas I get. So, there's that.

So today is advertising the last day of pre-Thanksgiving gifts... so, either they're switching it up for December, or it will be the same, just no longer before Thanksgiving. =P

They've changed something! They're currently protecting me from early spending. surprise

  • Something is protecting me from spending, and it's an empty wallet. Harrumph. Regards, Richard

Thanks joanna  for the tips. I'm preparing my wishlist, which is currently too full of items I probably don't want. I'm also hoping the Advent calendar will be organized like the pre-Thanksgiving sale, with a different code for purchase and for free, plus, of course, the free item every day from the PAs, as is tradition. We'll see what happens tomorrow.

    You're welcome!

That reminds me I have to temporarily remove textures for stuff I don't own yet. I know some people mentioned having good luck with getting textures first and then the main item later, but I don't want to risk that I'll end up with too many textures for things I don't own and not enough products.

Well, first day and both options were off my wishlist, so so far so good!

$19 base pice for the free (SKU 43777) $16 for the paid (SKU 66895) as data points to contribute to anyone trying to figure out parameters for the year.

I might keep track of my own for curiosity's sake.

I know it's just the first day, but I think it may have been for nothing. My Day 1 advent calendar freebie is a t-shirt for Chip. (>_>)

I guess daz just likes you better than me. T_T Oh well. At least renderosity is generous with four nice freebies.

Too bad it wasn't like with normal life, with the ability to swap gifts with other DAZ "members" lol

My freebie was around 80k (Genesis 8.1 era), my paid item around 92k (early Genesis 9 era), both textures pack priced at $17.

Okay, so we are up to early G9 as a possibility, then. That's interesting.

Is the cost for the paid thing each day always the same? I can't remember what mine was exactly, but it was between $3 and $4 (I think maybe $3.25ish). Is that based on the actual price of the thing or is it just the same across the board regardless of the specific item put in the advent calendar? Has anyone had anything offered to them today at a higher/lower price than that?

You mean the price you have to paid for the paid items? As far as I remember, it'll 2.99 everyday.

The base price of the items selected for the Advent Calendar on the other hands can vary, and 2.99 items seem to have a wider base price range (a bit over $30) than the free item. But you could end (last year at least) one day with a free item with a higher base price compared to the 2.99 item.

Yeah, I specifically meant the price paid on it through the advent calendar (not it's actual base price). I could've sworn mine was over $3, but maybe I'm misremembering. I didn't pay much attention since the free one was something I really wanted off my wishlist, but I thought it started with a 3
