OT Rugby World Cup

Well since I am rugby mad from living in New Zealand for 24 years I am happy to say the Welsh played a blinder, even against inconsistent referring, to beat England. Man I am hyped after watching that. I am part Welsh on my mums side and part English but my Welsh side comes out more. :) Yes my favourite team is New Zealand though. as I was raised there and feel more of a Kiwi anyway.

  • Yes, it was a great win, they showed bags of courage.

I hope I enjoy tomorrow's match as well, Ireland and Romania, some good Ulster players in the team.

    exactly, I think. ;)

Yeah Ireland have beene looking good these past 3 years so it should go their way.

Yes Neil supports Ireland (and Dublin when it's an all Ireland thing)   But, todays win, on Englands home ground is a great result.

Pete, what I said was  "The Red Dragon leads the way"  and of course "Wales forever".

The red Dragon is also the name of the flag.  I think we have the best flag in the UK, and I also think we have the best National Anthem. Nothing so stirring as to hear a rugby team belting out  Hen Wlad Fy Nhadau

or even a flash mob at a London Station

I knew what the flag is called in English and yes I like the Welsh and Scotish anthems.

Even though my mum came from Wrexham (Wales), and my dad from Rosyth (Scotland), I'm English through and through. So, BOO!  cheeky

I always say I am British. Have Scots blood come down through my Dad's family, Irish through my Mum's, along with a little Welsh, and then I married a Welshman, so Welsh by marriage. My best friend  is half Welsh, (we have been Friends since meeting at school aged 11). Somehow the English bit never seems to dominate. Have supported Wales at rugby since the 1970s

Not watched any, but caught a few results on the radio and I have to say, hats off and huge amounts of kudos to the Japanese team for taking out South Africa and having a damned good go at their next opponents (can't recall who they were), only seeming to flag a little toward the end and losing by a larger margin than the play seemed to warrant.

Man that Japan V SA was an awesome game to watch.

I thought Japan got the short end of the stick with the Scotland game- Not to take anything away from scotland, but it was unfair to put Japan against a fresh scottish team 4 days after playing SA. That wasn't enough time to recover.

Well I'm loving the Rugby World Cup, just as I love the Football World Cup, the Olympics, ...  Do I watch them? No. But my husband is glued to the screen and so I'm free to spend all that lovely time DAZ3D-ing, without him being able to suggest that I should be "doing something useful". Bring on all the sport, I appreciate it!

PS: He's English, but with some Irish blood and a little bit of Welsh and he doesn't really mind who wins as long as it's a good game. I DO get to hear some blow-by-blow accounts over dinner, but that's a small price to pay.

  • They did indeed Pam, and Tommy Bowe got a try as well, I'm happy for him.   Ireland are hard to beat these days.

I thought the Wales game was outstanding, and Scotland did really well too.   It is well worth watching this year, my bubble will probably burst soon because everone that I have wanted to win  has won (so far), it can't last laugh

I am willing the All Blacks on to win, no luck involved just pure awesomeness IMO. But I can't deny the talent of the Aussies. And Chuck is getting too old now. :P

I live in Southern England but I've applied to emigrate to New Zealand to be with my Son who is now a citizen there. I'm a sports fan but Rugby leaves me cold. I can see that it is supported by "ordinary" fans in NZ, OZ and Wales  but, here in England,  it seems to be a sport beloved by Media Luvvies and toffs (privately educated, upper and upper-middle classes). The working class sport here is football (soccer as it is known by the sporting heathens).

I don't know how I'm going to get my soccer fix if NZ do allow me to live there. Thankfully, they didn't ask me for a sporting preference in the application form. My son will be watching the match in the middle of their night but I can hardly raise enough interest to watch even though my TV is on and the match is due to start in a few minutes.

I was born in SW London, but brought up in Kent. Standard education, no public school or anything like that, although I did pass the 11+ and went to a Grammar scholl from age 11. By descent I am British, having Scots, Irish and english genes, Welsh by marriage and adoption (as I now live in Wales).  For me it has always been Rugby, despite having gone to school with Keith Peacock. I have never watched a football match, but went every Saturday to watch the local rugby team
