I'm not much of a computer expert but am thinking of buying a new PC with a more powerful Nvidia graphics card (current one is an RTX 2070 Super). I was looking at PCs with RTX 50 series cards but then learned that they are not compatible with DS 4.24. DS 2025 sounds interesting but I was wondering what problems I might run into using all my existing DS products if I change to DS 2025. Any recomendations for desktop PCs would also be appreciated, because I don't plan to use the PC for gaming, just for DS rendering and normal office applications, so I don't need fancy lighting but suspect I do need good cooling, which is why I have found myself looking at gaming PCs. I use Windows and prefer Intel processors. I am also looking for an SSD with at least 2 TB.

The only thing which is not compatible with 4.24, is Iray rendering with the RTX 50 series GPUs. I own an RTX 5090, it renders fantastically in DS 2025. I would suggest that you future proof yourself and invest in a 50 series GPU system.

They might remove this post but in good conscience I want to make sure you are going in with your eyes open. As of now your plug-in products will not work in 2025 alpha. Your script based products may work but also may not work. Also, the viewport lags making it difficult to work in 2025. I expect these things will be fixed eventually but right now it is challenging to work in 2025. Having said that, I have a computer with a 5090 and high end Intel processor and I love the render speed and enough VRAM to put a dozen characters in a complex scene without playing around with 'Scene Optimizer' and/or hiding everything in the scene that's not in view. I work in 4.24, save the file, close it in 4.24, open it in 2025, and then render in 2025. This isn't what DAZ wants to hear so I suspect this post will be deleted, they've done this many times before. Can't say I blame them.

Maybe this paragraph will save the post. Even with the extra step, I recommend getting the best video card you can afford. Right now 2025 is "alpha" software so it's best to keep your expectations in check. I'm confident that the issues will be fixed and I'll be able to use only one app. Maybe when it reaches "beta" or maybe not until it is released but it will happen.

  • Split to its own thread - the DS 2025 thread is for discussing issues and experience with that version rather than for more general discussion, even if related to the new version.

Daz made it very clear from the start that plugins would not work in DS2025 without an update (which means some will never work with DS2025), and that some scripts will need to be updated too. That's not a secret or "something Daz doesn't want to hear".

Using DS4 to build the scene and rendering with DS2025 is actually what they have suggested for people who have 50xx cards ever since the alpha was released.

I agree that DAZ has been up front about plug ins and scripts but with 55 pages in the forum I'm pretty sure no one starts by reading them all hence I thought it appropriate to repeat it when the question was asked. If people did read it all they'd read all about bugs that have been fixed, not helpful. You're probably right that DAZ suggested building in 4.24 and rendering in DS2025 but I've never seen that post. I've posted this suggestion a few times and this is the first time a new thread was spun off. Every other time the posts disappeared without any comment.

As I said, I'm happy the way it is for now. If the plug ins and script products I own are not updated to work in DS2025 then I may decide to keep doing this. I downloaded 4.24 using the instructions provided for people who want to use 3delight after support is removed to make sure I can continue doing this. I think this potential issue warrants the same status as losing support for 3delight but that's up to DAZ to decide.
