Please help me get back in the game...

Hey folks. I've been living under a rock the last 15 years. I moved to the Bay Area, got sucked up into the tech grind. Stopped using DAZ and Poser after using it for years.

I've since bailed on all that and trying to get back into more artistic creative endeavors.

I've figured out I need the download manager to install anything. But I only have DAZ Studio 4.2 and not my Pro version. I also can't figure out how to install 2025 version. I see it on my account page, but not in the download manager. Looks like Cararra has been end of life'd(?) and there was an AI studio that came and went...

I feel Iike I'm a newb again. LoL.

    Welcome back!

The part about the Alpha version not showing up within DIM sounds like it's due to Filters - click on that and make sure you enable the one to see the new Alpha version. For the other issue - generally you can only ever download the latest released version from the servers (and so it is advised to backup the zip file for any version you may wish to "roll back" to). However, if you have paid for a specific version that might be different - if so then that may be fixed by enabling the right filters in DIM. However, very old versions might struggle to work with newer operating systems and/or drivers.

As far as I am aware Cararra no longer gets updates - however there are some people who still use it regularly for things and so you can look for more info in that section of the forums: https://www.daz3d.com/forums/categories/carrara-discussion

The current version of DS4 is DS4.24, not 4.2 (version numbers are not decimals, so 4.24 is more recent than for example 4.8)

You unlock the "DS 4 Pro" features by entering your serial number in DS: Go to Help > Register Daz Studio, select "work online" then "next", and you'll get to the screen where you can enter the serial number (the serial is available in the "My serial numbers" section of your account here).

Regarding the DS2025 alpha, as previously mentioned check the download filters in DIM advanced parameters: you need to have "Daz Studio 2025" checked in the "software" category, and "public build" channel selected.

If your computer doesn't have an NVIDIA 5000 series graphics card, the DS 2025 Alpha is not required and may not be very helpful for you. It is an Alpha release, and does not support PA plugins or many PA scripts. I think the DS 4.24.0.3 General Release will be much more useful in that case. It becomes the Pro version by entering your serial number, which you can find in your online Daz account.

Yes, I am one of those people, using Carrara on a near daily basis for short animations.  I'm not a modeler, so I don't feel I'm missing much versus other more up to date programs.  I've used Carrara so long it has become second nature, so I can think about what I want to do, rather than how to do it.  I am finally getting into DAZ Studio 4.24, but only for still images due to the long render times with the great iRay.  Then I use the stills as background in Carrara animations.  I have most recently checked out DS with Filament rendering, maybe some animation possible with that fast render time, but the quality is not the same as iRay renders.  Here is a short Carrara animation, a 48 second trailer for a 7 minute animation for the 48 Hour Film contest this year:

  • Thanks for the help folks! Glad to see the community is still as friendly and helpful as I remember it.

I have two machines I'm using. An M4 Mac Book Pro 48gb model. and a desktop Windows 11 PC with an RTX 5090 and a Threadripper.

What I'm trying to do is have a good local tool for posing and scene assembly for storyboard that I then will render out in things like Flux and WAN.

Looks like all the tools are going to run on my Mac through Rosetta.
