I don't understand why they allow spaces in names but not for the @ name thing.

Just coipy and paste the name from under the avatar - in most browsers that will copy and paste the URL too, which is all you need for the mention (no need for an @, it isn't parsing the name at all)

I haven't been on top of my Yahoo Mail box.  Somehow I am getting a lot of emails like this one.  How can I report phishing emails to yahoo email?  I don't know how to get control over that inbox.  I can look into security settings when I get home and on my computer.

On another topic, how can I reheat Taco Bell food I got from the mall food court where I work?  I wanted to go home to relax instead of eating in food court.

I need to update my signature as I'm back at working. Just got two new work shirts.  I hope my washing machine will give up being grumpy and actually do the main reason it exists.  Wash clothes.

I tried a new cheese today.  I found it while at the grocery two days ago, looking for some Gruyere or a decent Blue cheese wedge.  Sadly, nothing but cheap blue crumbles(*yawn*) in a tub, or some "Cheddar/Gouda" mix(*blech*) wedges.  HOWEVER, I did see something odd that I'd never seen before, called "Ube Gouda".  It's purple/blue/green and has a mild taste & texture sort of like Gouda but with an interestingly likable vanilla sub-taste, if you can get over eating such oddly colored cheese.surprise

Some of the comments around the web are not flattering.indecision  I just found it "interesting" and edible, not terrible.cheeky  For me it's easy snacking by itself.  Haven't yet tried it on crackers or saltines.  It's definitely not as "interesting" as a good, soft, tangy, Danish Blue cheese, but it's OK.smiley

It was the Monty Python Cheese Shop skit that turned me on to all the varieties of cheese, sixty years ago.  Still haven't tried even a half of them mentioned.  But I did find a few that I won't try again.frown

Oh cool! Gouda has been my favorite ever since I was a little kid. My grandparents lived in Wisconsin, and right next to a cheese factory with its attached store, so whenever we'd go to watch the cheese being made (a highlight for my brother and me!) we'd always come home with all sorts of bits-and-bops. Grandma loved feeding us weird stuff because we'd always try it. Anyway, it meant while most of my friends thought pocket cheese was the height of awesome, I was in love with waxed wheels of gouda. I'll have to give this type a try! Thank you for the bucket list item!

I found a camera but I don't know what charger it needs.  I'm not home and the camera is at home.  If I can take a picture of its port, can someone here id it?

Complaint: Mice in my garage, and it's too cold to humanely catch-and-release. I have reusable (enclosed) traps that deliver a fast, strong jolt of electricity, which is the most merciful I could find, but it still breaks my heart every time one of them starts flashing green to indicate it did its duty. And I really, really hate having to empty them. I've figured out how to do it so I don't have to see the body, but I still hear it land.

There are times I really don't like being the grown-up. That is definitely one of them.

Thank you for not using glue traps, I saw a post on Facebook on why gluetraps are not good,  I didnt take a screenshot because it was too heartbreaking of a picture.  I don't know why they posted that picture.  It looked like someone caught their little pet not the rodent,

My last corporate job used glue traps. They put one of them in my boss's desk drawer. I'm not sure they told my boss about it first, but... yeah, no, never. My boss was awful, so I really don't care if that was burned into her mind until the day she died, but the mouse deserved a kinder end than that.

The room leading up to the final boss in Metroid Prime is one of the most irritating things ever put into a video game. There's a new type of metroid, which is only vulnerable to one of the four types of beam weapon you can fire, and when defeated will split into two, each usually vulnerable to a different one of the four weapons than you just used. Once you've defeated one (which is actually three) of these, it doesn't matter, because they respawn faster than you could hope to kill them. All the while, you're trying to do complicated first-person platforming while most of the ground damages you. You can't kill all the metroids, you can't entirely ignore them because they'll knock you off your platform, and you're trying to minimize the damage you take because there's no way to recharge before the final boss, so if you get hurt too much, you have to double back to the save room and try it all over again.

I find those, and Souls-like, games very annoying - the game play seems to be learning a particular sequence of actions to beat the bosses rather than a looser style of play that allows for experimenyation (and, in my case, incompetence).

That's why I never got into those types of games.  Moving goals, unfair.angry

Non-complaint:  This week's mini-adventure:  I've decided to combine two adventures into one this week.  Dentist on Tuesday, combined with laundry a week early.  That means I have to store my laundry in the dentist's office first, then toddle, dragging my laundry cart, three blocks on up to BurgerKing for breakfast afterwards, then toddle another block to the laundromat.  Doing my laundry early means that I have room in my laundry cart for big things like mattress cover and recliner chair cover to get a long needed washing.  Yay!  And I might get some last minute turkey-day shopping done at the grocery near the laundromat.

Complaint:  Weather report is saying rain all day Tuesday.frown  Guess I'll slip a garbage bag over the laundry cart, and carry an umbrella and/or my black leather cowboy hat to deal with the rain.  I might even get to wear my cool looking Driza-Bone Australian oilcloth rain-cloak that has hung in my closet, unused, ever since my one need for it during my trip to Australia back in '95.indecision

Note:  I'm shocked to see how much they cost now.surprise  I didn't pay nearly as much, but then again, that was 30 years ago and pre-tariffs.indecision  I'm not sure the price is in US or Australian dollars, but still distressingly expensive.  So, it should probably get used a bit.yes

  • My wife bought a Driza-bone when we were last there (2010?), and from the wear it's showing, she'll never need another. It was pricy, but when amortised over a lifetime or two, it's good VFM. Regards Richard.

...the Rider Heritage coat would be perfect for the cold rainy winters here in the Northwest but yikes, 499 USD + shipping.

  • NylonGirlNylonGirl Posts: 2,196

Five hundred dollars and you don't get free shipping?

  • kyoto kidkyoto kid Posts: 41,837

...sadly they only ship domestically as well as to Singapore and Thailand so the price listed is likely in AUD (which at the current exchange rate is 322,50 USD).  Still pricey.

Seems the only way to get one is to go there yourself or if you know (and trust) someone who is travelling there, give them the money to buy one and hope it fits when you get it.

I had to google that coat and found some on ebay.

Non-complaint:  Whew, I finally got my Medicare purchased for next year  And after all is said and done, the premium for the Supplemental (i.e. Medigap) policy to cover the remaining 20% of costs exceeding what standard medicare will pay, plus the regular deductions for Part B (doctors) and the Part D (drugs) deductions from my Social Security income is only $55 more than I had to pay last year for the Advantage plan.   If I'd chosen the full coverage policy the extra monthly cost would have been about $350 more.

Complaint:  Unfortunately, if I get sick I'm still responsible for deductable charges up to about $3000 for the year.  The trick is to not get sick.  There's no winning this game.  Just try to not get hurt playing.angry

Observation:  Through this whole mess, and running the numbers, it could have cost me about the same regardless of which way I went.  The devil was in the details, whether I went with fully-covered, or high-deductable policy.  I'd rather have the lower cost per month and possibly have to pay the deductable, than pay a certain high premium every month.  Your mileage may vary.

Now if I can just get my cardiologist to switch me to the new generic version of Xarelto (hoping that is it much cheaper)...

Complaint:  Arghhh... When going to print out copies of my Medicare decisions, application forms, and contracts, my printer decided to finally die.  (*Sigh*)sad

I did my first Amazon haul order. It had to be above $25 I think to get free shipping.  I got some laundry bags, usb c cables, kitchen things and a pill box.  Was there anything else?  It was with an Amazon gift card so had to use it at Amazon.

Complaint: An hour and a half on customer service with Xfinity Comcast to get my cable TV disconnected

non-complaint: My two options were either to simply disconnect the cable and keep my current internet plan, or disconnect my cable, upgrade to an internet that is twice as fast, and also get an ipad with unlimited cellular data. The difference between the two plans was $2 /month. I really don't need a new ipad, but faster internet would be nice (virtual appointments get a lot of lag issues on my current one), and I suppose with as often as internet goes down and considering I don't actually use a cell for anything except emergency roadside issues, maybe it would be nice to have something that could connect to the net to figure out how long the outage is expected to be, or to be able to have internet regardless of a nearby wifi hub. So I went with that, and I'm still payign considerably less than I was with the cable connected. Seeing as the only thing the TV ever gets used for is to stream movies (rarely) it's a net win.

I feel you. I have watched my Comcast/Xfinity bill go up over the years and it is now pretty high. Because my flatmate has three websites, we need really good internet. I also needed it until a few years ago to help maintain another one. But no longer. The flatmate does not watch Comcast but does often have as many as 10 YouTube channels open at one time, while he has a movie playing from a DVD, another computer with a cartoon, and he is writing/editing one of his stories. (Don't ask me, I have no idea how he concentrates.) So he pays $40.00 towards the internet, leaving me to pay the rest of the bill. Xfinity has no idea how much my bill is for Xfinity and how much is for Comcast.

So for the past few years I have tried to compare the streaming options that will still give me my local news (for emergency news), national channels that I love, and the occasional channels I may watch. But many of those options now have raised their prices so combined with the straight Xfinity charge (it is still the best internet provider here) the price is close to the same, nearly $180.00/month and most of it is crap. I remember when cable was $8.00/month.

I don't have a box, I watch on my iPad.

I remember when $8 would get you a half-decent motel room for the night, and breakfast.frown

Complaint:  I didn't get my laundry done this morning.  Wimped out on the required walk.  Nor did I get to BurgerKing for breakfast.indecision  Too pooped to toddle, but I did get a very short Uber ride from the dentist to the grocery store where I picked up a pumpkin pie, and other goodies for an at-home turkey-day feast.  Heavy snow predicted for the holiday.

Non-complaint:  Weather held off for a few hours.  I didn't need my rain-cloak, nor umbrella, nor leather cowboy hat .  So, that 30 year old cloak still hangs undisturbed.  Perhaps next year I could arrange to go to the nearby Gerry Rodeo on a rainy day, where the cloak and cowboy hat would be right in style.enlightened

Non-complaint:  The dentist didn't find anything to fix, he sounded disappointed, but I wasn't.smiley

At one point having cable + internet was cheaper than just having cable, which is really the only reason I had it. We've only ever used the TV for movies (and the Lucky Dog channel Little Dude adores that came with the TV). We have a bunch of other internet options around here, but a lot of them are overkill for our needs, based on the fact that what we have seems to (with the exception of the video calls) be working fine. If it was just me we could probably do with even less, but both kids are very digitally native and I don't limit screen time. (I know a lot of people freak out about that being a bad parenting choice, and for many kids I'm sure it is, but I didn't get standard-issue iids. They both thrive this way, and I'm used to going against the crowd. Also, winters get suuuuuper long here...)

Complaint: Cold and rainy today, turning into 5-7 inches of snow, with temps plummeting after. Daily walks are officially toast for the foreseeable future. Little Dude is in for some rough days with the absence.

non-complaint: at least it's supposed to be done by travel time on Thursday

complaint: ...but of course the diaper order for the month arrives for today. It always picks the day it rains. It's a running joke at this point, but geez.

I was in the kitchen with a dishwasher pod. The dishwasher was also in the kitchen but with a lot of dirty dishes.

I don't know if it works better than liquid soap, but I prefer Dishwasher pods over dishwasher liquid soap.  I think it is because I have to try to mesure the dishwasher liquid and try to be consistant.
