(Yes I know this was its own symbol before Starbucks, but it was the first thing I thought of when I saw that promo.)

    I just checked Starbucks' store locator, and Salem currently has two of the coffeeshops. And according to the Austin Powers movies, Starbucks is owned by Dr. Evil's cabal. The plot thickens...

    I've been to Salem, MA. The historic downtown section has very strict rules regarding how storefronts, shingles, etc can look. While I didn't see any Starbucks when I was there, I smiled when I saw the mermaid shingle you pointed out. I can easily imagine the local Starbucks being told to use a pseudo-historical shingle locally rather than the usual corporate logo. :)
