[Studio Alpha / DAZ6] Render-Preview faulty/untrue?

Hi!

A short question to all fellows who already sat foot into DAZ Studio 6 Alpha. There was something bothering me and my question was "me problem" or "everyones problem"?

I am talking about the Render previews that is supposed to show you how your finished work will look like. I need you to look at this...

Prev vs Fin

The left one is a screenshot from the finished preview, the right one is the PNG that results when I save the image. If you look at the collar and the rim of her shirt, you may notice that the preview is a bit jagged, pixely and not antialiazid.

► Has anyone in the Alpha the same problem?

There are differences between preview and actual render.

SubD is usually lower in preview, and I assume that is what you are seeing.

Furthermore displacement is only visible in actual render, but I don't think it affects your image.

    Thank you.

For the viewport and so on I can see this, but I didn't know that this also applies in the windows that appears when I press "Render" and that - I could swear in the years before - showed how the picture is rendered step-by-step how it will look later.

I use studio since nearly 10 years, but never noticed a difference in the Render-Window and the resulting PNG.

So the screenshot on the left is not what you see in Viewport with NVIDIA Iray drawstyle but the Render window after you hit Render ?

  • Thank you for your reply. Left: result after clicking on "Render". This is the screenshot of the window that pops up, shows the render process and then lets you save the image. This is after 3k iterations Right: The PNG that results after saving

I have attached the following to better describe the problem:

    1) The viewport, with non-smoothed edges as expected

    2) The render progress window, this one looked like the rendered image in the past, but here it looks like the viewport

    3) The saved file, as you can see, with smoother borders then the progress window

    04a_Viewport.png
    1882 x 1882 - 3M
    04b_Renderwindow.png
    1267 x 1405 - 1M
    04c_PNG_Output.png
    1000 x 1000 - 826K

Hmm ~~ it's the first time for me to see such an issue which is odd ~~

I couldn't  reproduce the issue with DS Alpha. The image in the render window always looks identical as the saved PNG on my side.

What's your Nvidia Card ? as well as the driver version ?

  • Thank you for your help and patience :-)

I use an 5090 RTX with the latest Studio Driver 581.57

An additional info: When I use the 4.x version and render with the CPU, the image looks like the final PNG

I don't have a 50 series card by now... so I'm not sure if it's a 50xx specific issue ~~ I'm sorry that I'm not able to give more helpful info.

Let's see if other folks who have 50 series card can help with testing and find out the culprit.

  • No problem :-) Thank you for taking your time to look into it.

Perhaps someone with a 50xx card can bring light into darkness.

Additional information: I experimented with Post Denoise settings and alike, but the results always only affect the saved image, never the processing window. It aseems as if the progress-window uses the viewport.
