The model is overexposed.

Hi, Recently, I've started using the daz studio again to create images that I use as references for my drawings. I haven't used it in a while so I'm a little rusty. I did some tests with the genesis 8 and everything was fine. I tried with the old Victoria 4.2 model (with the nvidia rendering) and the model is overexposed. There is an excess of light. I would need to use that model and not a newer one because I've various accessories, (clothes, weapons, various utensils and more), if I had to switch to another model I would have to buy many things again and now, for the use I make of them, I don't care. So I ask you how I can solve it? Thank you.

This is what Victoria 4 looks like to me, but converted to Iray Uber, and Render Settings > Tone Mapping > Burn Highlights & Crush Black set to 0.25

This is with added 50% tranlucency in the skin materials (and copying the base color maps).

  • Hi and thanks for the reply. I tried lowering both burn highlights and crush black. The image is much improved but it still seems overexposed to me. I've don't understand which skin materials you were referring to. In which panel I do find it. And which base color maps I should copy?

The material I was using was found in Smart Content. You can also find it in Content Library, but under Daz Studio Formats, which throw me off. After applying I applied Iray Uber shader. Daz will do it automatically if you just render, but I like to have it applied.

For adding translucency, I set Translucency to 50% and used the texture map that was in Base Color. For skin there is more surfaces that uses the same material, so that can speed the process up.

Victoria4 is atleast a few years before iray,   and did not have those iray material settings included.  There is a product that can help with the corrected adjustments.

    https://www.daz3d.com/iray-converter-for-generation-4

Your other option is to render using DazStudio 3Delight,  she should look correct with that renderer setting.

V4 was released long before Iray was included in DS, and was a figure made for Poser in the first place.

Most of the content made for V4 will only have Poser materials and will require material adjustments to look ok when rendered with Iray. Some has DS materials made for 3DL, which should work a bit better than Poser ones in Iray as DS tries to convert those automatically.

  • [bit of a muttered comment into my beard (if I had one)] Yes, I'm guilty of this too: Too few clothes on my models, over-exposing them to public gaze.
