I see these files all over the place, including here, the majority are for free. They say they work in Daz but I have no idea how to get them into Daz. Many are just images and I don't know how to import these or what folder they go into or anything. I tried to find a tutorial about them and how they are used, but all I get are sites offering the images, not how to use them.
I am using Daz 4.8 and might be going back down to 4.7, not sure yet, so hopefully it's the same for both versions?

The instructions on how to use them will depend on whether you're using 3Delight or Iray. For the former, you can insert the hdr file into UberEnvironment lighting. For the latter, you'll want to look at the environment controls on the render tab. You can use an image file for your environment lighting, and this is where you can slot in your HDR.
If you're using a plugin, like Reality 4, you can select an HDR file for your image based lighting on the lights tab.
It would be the 3Delight as my computer can't handle Iray at this time. How do I insert the file into UberEnvironment...are you talking about after I add UE and add to the basic which is the only thing that shows a spot to add an image. How do I use this?
Just insert the image into the Color slot in the Light settings/Parameters.
Ok got it.
Ok loaded it and did a render, now I know how to put them in. Next step is to figure how how to get the lighting I want from those images. I have also see HDR images in an HDR format, can those be used as well and in the same way?
Yes. It's been a while now that 3DL can use hdr files directly.
