LAMH2 Iray Catalyzer, constant crashing - is it compatible with DS 4.23?

I just upgraded to DS 4.23 yesterday, and I also upgraded my Nvidia Driver to 472.60 this afternoon (RTX 2060). I bought Iray Catalyzer last night on sale, so this is my first time using it.

I was hoping to finally be able to render some of my catalyzer-ready AM animals, namely the Squirrel and the White Tiger since there are no dforce hair versions for those.

The plug-in panel is registered and working. I read through the PDF, I am doing everything correctly. But when I hit render on the Catalyzer panel, it starts processing the hair and the it crashes after a few moments. I have nothing else in the scene when I try this. I've tried both the White Tiger and several of the Squirrels, just one at a time, with nothing else in the scene. I just wanted to run a simple test render, but I can't seem to do that with these 2 animals.

I also tried rendering the catalyzer version of the Felidae Lion Cub, and that one does render. But that doesn't help me really, since the Lion cub came with preset for both dforce fur as well catalyzer versions, and to be honest it looks better with dforce fur so I don't really need catalyzer for the lion cub. The whole purpose of buying Catalyzer was to render those AM animals I have that do not have dforce fur yet, and it wont work on them unfortunately.

Any tips or suggestions?

I eventually got it to render the White Tiger, but the crashing is just so frequent, tt makes it almost unuseable. I'll probably keep the plug-in though, it was so cheap on sale that its worth keeping (a little over a dollar). And also, the Tiger renders very dark with the default settings. But with a little tweaking you can get a decent render out of it. I included my settings in case anyone else see's this thread and has problems with it.

So consider this solved I guess. Unless someone has other tips to prevent frequent crashing.

I was actually just browsing to see if this problem was only me or not and if a fix or workaround existed.  I haven't been able to get it to render anything, and the crash is instant for me.  The moment I hit the render button boom.

Funnily enough it leaves the Catalyzer pane on my screen along with the first task it began performing.  But yeah I don't think this should be sold in this state.  This is my first time trying to use it and I'm pretty sure I'm already past the 30 day refund mark.

I was hoping I was just not doing something right but I read through the documentation, and you can even see I had it open in my browser at the time DS crashed, lol.

I wish AM could have just sold dforce addons for his LAMH furred critters, life would have been much simpler

  • I have the same problem.  I was never able to render at all successfully, not even once.

I purchased "Felidae" and "LAMH 2 Iray Catalyzer for DAZ Studio 4.8+" and only added "Lion - Catalyzer - High Detail - Color Scheme 1" to a brand new, empty scene.  Nothing else is in the scene.

I follow the instructions in the PDF: register the plugin, restart Daz Studio, and click the "Render" button in the pane (shown in the screenshot).

Using Daz Studio 4.24.0.3 on Windows 11, I get the error shown in the screenshot.  It has never worked.  Too bad.  The artwork on the product page looks beautiful.  Maybe @alessandro-am has some ideas?

Try clicking on "Safe Mode" on the Catalyzer window - it may help. (I was told to do this by AM when I was havig probems with the Squirrel)

  • Thanks, @MelanieL!  It rendered without crashing when I followed your suggestion.
