Daz Studio 6.x (2025), GPU + CPU utilisation

I was monitoring my GPU performance while a scene was rendering, and I note BOTH GPU and CPU are quite heavily use.

Is this the norm for DS 2025 aka v6.x ?

Or do I need to tweak settings to get the GPU to take more of the heavy-lifting ?

  • Usually when you have a NVidia graphics card in your system the CPU does not really help with rendering. You can switch it off in the Render Settings pane → Hardware

So that results in faster rendering than with both CPU and GPU working?  Seems countertuitive, although I realize these nVidia GPU's are pretty awesome.

Rendering with both GPU and CPU is faster than using GPU but only not that significantly, depending on how powerfull your CPU is. For instance, I could only see appr. 3~5% time saving with checking GPUs + CPU of my AMD Threadripper 3990x.

Sometimes the extra overhead on the CPU from both rendering and managing the rendering does seem to make the whole process slower, or has in the past, for some systems and/or some renders.

  • Thank you, Everyone, for the tips !

  • Here is a snapshot of GPU only rendering with CPU fallback.

I personally feel it is more efficient than for the shared GPU-CPU rendering option, because my CPU fan keeps starting up.  With GPU-only rendering, my CPU fan stays quiet.

For interest - I modelled the t-shirt and the corridor using Blender3D and set them up with 3rd-party shaders in DS 2025 (v6.x).  The bag I used was by a creator who has long left this planet. Using with thanks.
