ugh...i don''t remember!
i remember you can get particles to cover an object like i did a thousand years ago. but i can't figure out what i did in the settings.
this time though, i'm trying to obliterate a snowman. lol
anyone got any poinrers?

It's been a long time since I've looked at them, but I would guess increasing the lifetime a lot will give you the effect you're looking for.
that didn't do it.
i'm using a sphere and emitter to try to remember
Could the 'Size of particle over its life' graph have something to do with it?
I made a quick test using a simple Primitive Sphere as the emitter object and chose 'Sphere' for the particle 'Shape'.
I then manipulated the particle size over life graph so the particles scale up from nothing at birth and then scale back down over their lifetime. I also set Gravity to zero in the Advanced tab.
And here is a simple animated 10 second test:
yes, i'm sure that's what i did in places. but what i'm trying to do is get the particles to cover an object.
if you watch my video, you'll notice where the particles coalesce into the letters. i'm pretty sure that's a second emitter using the "Generate particles before start time" function. those particles don't go anywhere they just grow and fade. i never turned on the text object.
but nothing is happening. nothing is forming on the sphere.
Is it possible that the 'Emission time range' is overriding the 'Generate particles before start time'?
You have the 'Emission time range' set to
'From:' 00:00:20
'To:' 00:10:00
and the 'Generate particles before start time' set to
'During' 00:00:05
I tried those settings on my test and when I switched my 'From:' time to 00:00:20 (previously set to 00:00:00) particles would not spawn until 20 frames down the timeline, despite having 'Generate particles before start time' checked and with a value set in the 'During' box.
When I changed the values of my 'From:' time to back to 00:00:00 - particles would spawn as expected over my sphere object.
got it. you were right.
but why is the size over lifetime greyed out?
Hmmm...I don't know. I never noticed that, lol.
Just click the little blue rectangle and the graph will open up.
Hi, have you figured this out since? I'm currently working with particles and trying to learn everything I can.
BTW, I don't get the search engine on Daz: it looks like one cannot do a search in a specific forum like Carrara -- only a general "Search Forums" which makes it really hard to narrow things down. I'm trying to find all particle-related discussions in the CARRARA forum, but no luck :-(
try Google Search

that link just the resulting URL if you are not using Google
I believe I have Particles pretty well figured out, but they intersect one another even though "Particles push one another" is checked. The particle used is a playing card with a proper vertex mesh for its geometry. I have cards spewing out of a round container thing, but, you'll notice the cards intersect. And, eve though "Collide with scee objects" is also checked, they do intersect with the inside of the container.
you probably need a double sided mesh, it uses the bounding box too from the hotpoint
Also try more vertices
The mesh is double-sided. See a screenshot of the mesh. I think it's pretty sufficient.
