Any techie has an idea how I should hunt this bug down ?

3D CG bug hunt:

I tested with OBJ objects created using two versions of Blender3D - 4.3.2 and 4.5.3.

Both objects imported into Daz Studio 4.24 and objects from both version are unable to receive applied shader presets from Daz Studio libraries. (Yes I have pointed to the surfaces in the Surface tab and am using iRay)

All UVs and material zones and normals have been done correctly in Blender3D.

This was never the case with my old Win 10 PC with 3060 Nvidia GPU. I now have an Nvidia 5080 GPU and a Win 11 PC. My GPU driver is up-to-date.

I'm not sure if you mean the shader presets fail to be applied or if you cannot render the applied shader effects... but DS 4.24 doesn't support Nvidia 50 series cards in terms of rendering. You have to use DS 2025 Alpha for your 5080 card.

  • @crosswind - that's most likely it. I need to go to the alpha version !

Existing shaders from the store work with my RTX 5080 win11 machine using Daz Studio 4.24.  It is only the imported OBJs which I modelled in Blender3D that can't seem to render the applied shader presets from the library.  I can render my images with DS 4.24 and my RTX 5080.

Are you sure the version of the obj you imported is UV-mapped?

How did you export them from Blender, and what options did you use when importing them in DS?

  • Can confirm there is UV mapping done in Blender.

here are my Blender3D export options.  I'll do an import options screen capture in my next post

  • and here is my DS import option (ignore the caling please)

  • It's a bit of a mess, but here's the evidence of the UV map and material creation for the model inside Blender3D

What are your settings for the OBJ export from Blender and import into DS?

  • LeanaLeana Posts: 12,735

I don't see the export and import options in your posts, is there an attachment missing maybe?

  • Sometimes with obj files, I need to apply the DAZ Uber shader to the file before other Uber based shader presets work. Don't know why.

    Regards,

    Richard

  • Sorry my attachments seem to have vanished.  trying to send  again.

Those attachments are still on their original post, it is images showing the options used for export and import that we wish to see.

  • Trying again... apologies for the mess

You need Read UV Coordinates checked on the Import options.

AHHHHH !!!  That's a face palm moment.  Thank you so much.

  • FIXED !!!  Just that unchecked UV import box was driving my nuts....

At least it was a simple fix in the end.

With DS 4.24, you just previewed or rendered with your CPU rather than your RTX 5080 ~ You can see the message from your DS 4.24 log stating your 5080 cannot be used for Iray preview or render...

Thanks to Wendy Vainickis I checked and saw that my CPU has been rendering for DS 4. DS recognises the RTX 5080 card but cannot render with it. Nvidia app on Win11 shows that the CPU is in use. I will migrate to DS 5.
