Unimesh fits are expansions of some outfits made for V4 and M4 to support "unimesh" characters. Basicallly you get a new cr2 with additional custom morphs for Aiko 4, Girl 4 , Stephanie 4 and V4 Elite if it was a V4 outfit, and for Hiro 4, Freak 4 and M4 Elite if it was a M4 outfit.

They are fits for Generation 4 clothes that allow them to be used on all the gen 4 figures.  IE an V4 unimesh fit will also fit S4 A4 G4 etc

oh ok, so they aren't really needed if you don't own A4, G4, S4 & V4E. H4,F4, & M4E? I was looking at this sale stuff in the sci-fi section:
    http://www.daz3d.com/space-dweller-m4-unimesh-fits
    and

I like the options of the alternate textures but maybe not worth it since I don't own those other characters. I have M4 and V4 and was looking for some scifi clothes for all the new scifi bundle sets, GIS, et al.

In the old days, before Genesis,  they needed to make additional character fits of the clothing beyond the base V4 and M4 for the other shapes avaialble.  Genesis technology made the requirement unnecessary.   Still useful on those specific generation 4 character figures though.

ok, I see. I don't imagine I'll be buying any of those other gen 4 characters, and I have Freak 5 (no real use for F4). I'll let the other 2 clothing slide. Thanks, Leana, Chohole, and FirstBastion.

Note that in order to fit gen 4 clothing to Genesis none of the unimesh fits are needed to get auto-fit to work.

DS already had morph transfer before Genesis (well at least in DS3 Advanced). But custom morphs always give better results, and besides those were needed for Poser users too.

As far as I know, Unimesh fits never have additional textures, just a new CR2 and MAYBE a new .obj. Are you referring to the two textures listed as add-ons? They DON'T require the Unimesh fits because they'll work with the base (M4 & V4) clothing just fine.

not only that, mostly you got alternative textures with the unimish sets, too so I often bought them because of the textures :)

I was referring to the two items which I linked. My mistake on the textures then, I just saw that the clothing is a different color than the original items of the same name, minus unimesh.

Needed, no. But one thing to consider is that  there are a *lot* of V4 character designers who would dial in just a *bit* of Aiko, or Girl4 to create a V4 character. There are a lot of such hybrids in the store Particularly from artists like Surreality. Having the option helps.

Plus, most of the unimesh fits also include a new texture set as well as the additional morphs. If you tend to ignore texture add-ons then you might as well ignore thse too unless you think you will be using one of the other figures. But if you like to be able to give an outfit a different look it's a perfectly good texture set.

Unimesh fits pretty much *always* included a new texture set by some time in 2009. Maybe the very first ones didn't, when the only other V4 morph was A4. But once the Girl4 was added I never say a unimesh fit that didn't include a texture set.
