How many characters do you have. All generations? Which do you use?

starting way back in time...with Victoria and Michael--1,2,3,4 and all that generation..then Genesis, 3,8,8.1, and now 9 .... I can't even count...how would you even count all of them?

    Using the extra filters from https://www.daz3d.com/forums/discussion/742841/extra-shop-filters-bookmarklet to go to the Characters store category and filter it for stuff I own, excluding bundles, and then only "Humans" and "Creatures/Humanoid" categories, I'm getting about 1375.

    That seems to include some non-character things (such as HD addons for Core characters), but there's also enough stuff under the "Robots" category that I have that I think also reasonably counts as characters, there's a few products I know have been taken down from the store, and I have a few things from other stores as well, so I'm reasonably happy saying that for me it's in the region of 1400 across all generations.

    Of course, I then only use a couple of dozen on a regular basis...

    Hundreds, don't care how many hundreds - it's a lot!

  • I filtered my Product Library by Genesis X and counted core, DO, & PA for each generation: G3 = 24, G8/8.1 = 56, G9  = 27. About 50% of these are fantasy and SF characters. For G9 it's 77%.

    I'm surprised I don't own more G3 characters, as I stayed primarily with G3 longer than many folks. I combined 8 & 8.1 characters because I only bought a few very unusual 8.1s, like https://www.daz3d.com/tree-giant-bundle. I was also a late G9 adopter, after about 2 years when G9 prices first started getting significantly discounted. Also surprised I have as many G9 characters, but that's partly due to my on again/off agin Premier habit.

    I have many other characters of Generations 2/3/4 and Genesis 1/2 as well, since I started with DS2 just before V4 debuted. But I was too lazy to tally all those.)

    Right now I use G3, G8, & G9 plus a couple of the more unusual G2 characters, like Fiends Forever  (https://www.daz3d.com/fiends-forever-starter-bundle & https://www.daz3d.com/fiends-forever-male-starter-bundle) and http://www.daz3d.com/anemone-for-genesis-2-female-s

    Counting only the ones that show up in Content library under "Characters";
    Genesis-21
    G2f-64
    G2M-18
    G3F-145
    G3M-26
    G8F-269
    G8F-30
    G9-27
    G9 Toon-4

    I have around 20 or so more G8f that are in non-default folders so I have to dig to find them.

    And a few non-humans(creatures, robots, etc,etc) I have to dig for to find also.

    Using Matt_Castle's technique it says 780 from the Daz store alone.

    I do shop at several other stores. So I have 20-30 or so from other places.

    I started with Studio in 2014 so I came in around the start of Genesis 2 so I really don't have much for characters older than that.

    The characters I use most are dial spun G8F I've iterated upon over the years.

    I've never had much interest in G9 so I probably won't be getting much more for the series.

    My custom content management database says I have 1446 and dear god I probably need to uninstall most of them. The overwhelming majority are G8-9, since I only used free resources back in the G1 days, and I was off doing non-art things through G2 and G3, and haven't seen much point in picking up more than incidental amounts of older generations since getting back into it.

    Out of all of this, I pretty much only use G9 core characters, and only when doing promo renders; the rest of the time they're all just ingredients for my custom characters.

    Several thousand.  I used to do promo's for Sympatico Studios so I have easily a thousand for G8.  And a couple thousand more if you count all generations.  I literally had to create custom categories using the alphabet letters in order to make it semi manageable.

    This was a very useful exercise, thanks for asking. It has confirmed my increasing recent feeling that I have enough. The numbers below are counted from my product library on my machine. All characters I possess are installed. No animals are included except where based on a human base figure. So AM's Orangutan is included (G8M) but the Millennium Dragon isn't.

    V3/M3/A3: 12. In regular use: 2

    V4/M4/A4: 11. In regular use: 0

    G1: 4. In regular use: 0

    G2F: 37. In regular use: 2

    G2M: 3. In regular use: 0

    G3F: 65. In regular use: 3

    G3M: 4. In regular use: 0

    G8F: 95. In regular use: 6

    G8M: 14. In regular use: 1

    G9: 25. In regular use: 0

    Regards,

    Richard.

    Probably 2000 or more.

  • davesodaveso Posts: 7,767

    wow--just categorizing by characters and what I own there are around 2300, but that includes non-humnan as well. BUT 359 G9, that really shocks me actually.. G8.1 186 male and female, G8 MF 689, but I see there are tattoo packs, dirt, and all that...
    G=73, Vicoria 4 236 ..300 for G3 M/F  /////   way too many for sure. I think it can be cut down a lot though considering there are morphs and things in there.

    I wasn't going to use G9 for quite awhile, but now that's who I use after buying and getting so many G9 deals. Its hard to pass them up.

    Characters only, excluding: bundles & modifiers (control-click on "modifiers" to exclude it using the bookmarklet)

    I've also bought quite a few G8F and G8M characters at Renderosity that aren't included. My biggest surprise from this is that I have almost equal amounts of males and females for Gen 8.

    K4 = 10
    M4 = 11
    V4 = 31
    G1 = 39
    G2F = 84
    G2M = 42
    G3F = 58
    G3M = 42
    G8F = 161
    G8M = 133
    G9 = 7

    G8, over 250; G3 about the same. About a hundred of the other generations.

    Used, overall, maybe 45.

    I have nothing against G9 - I just don't need any more human characters. The only G9 I'm picking up are priced at less than $5 and provide a noticeable discount on the rest of the cart.

    Wow!! Like Richard, I think maybe I have enough. When G9 came out I had less than 30 G8F characters, but all the great deals and free characters after the release of G9 really expanded on that. The same thing with G3F when G8 came out, and more freebies over the past year.

    What really shocked me though is the number of G9 characters I have surprise

    G9 - 71
    G8F - 85
    G8M - 4
    G3F - 71
    G3M - 13
    G2F - 52
    G2M - 18
    G1 - 33
    V4/M4/A4/S4 - 87
    V4/A3/M3 - 17
    The Girl - 2

    No idea.  I CAN tell you that, in the DAZ store alone, the store counters show that I own nearly 11,000 of the character sets that are currently in the store... but that's not really accurate as 1.) there are a huge number that I'll never purchase here as I already purchased them back when they were being sold at one of the other stores, 2.) that there are also quite a few that I've bought here that are no longer currently in the store so the store calculators can't "see" those, and 3.) that there's a certain amount of "shrinkage" in cases where the same figure is listed as both a bundle and an individual figure, or where there's a standard and HD version listed in the store seperately, or whrere the's another vairant like a young or old version sold seperately, and where a morph only pack is counted as a figure.  And, of course, that's before one factors in all ove the other ones that I've bought at Renderosity, RuntimeDNA and many other stores, and a massive number of ones that I picked up as freebies or in vendor sponsored BOGOs over the years.  So... my guess is probably in the teen-thousands but I can't get more specific than that....

    As to what I use... Genesis 3 and Genesis 8 as a tag team combo have been my go-tos for years and will probably continue to be my prefered figure bases, as there's very little that can't be done with the morphs, textures, and other assests available.  That said, I still regularly pull out other generations for specific uses... like Gen 2 still has one of the best selection of morphs and textures for young male chacters, the original genesis is incredibly useful for non-humans and crowd creation, especially since it easily uses most Victoria 4 generation assets, and Genesis 9 has arguably the best selection of toon-ish type products.

  • Only what came with the software, so the base figures. No other characters.

    Probably around 2000 overall, from various sites (several of which don't exist anymore)

    I started with generation 3 figures (mainly A3 and SP3), but also have a handful of M2/V2/Mil kids characters (mostly stuff I got for free). I've used every generation since then, and still use some older figures from time to time.

    2620 - but that includes morph packages with presets, but HDs are included with their main DO character. I have been logging in characters (excludes animals) and hairs (1478) on Google docs spreadsheets since early on. I thought to do environments, poses, and other things, but that went to the side. Not enough time.

    that is a very smart move. You can do so much with the base characters for sure.

    I'd amend that to say that you can do a good bit, BUT you also run into a lot more limitations and restrictions given that what comes "free with the program" in the essentials packages are very stripped down basic models of a some very generic base sculpts.  Yes, you do get a human figure that you can pose, but without buying add-ons you'll be stuck with the fact that the genesis bases only come with generic male and female skins that can only be altered by tinting the diffuse layer, lack any real aging/youth morphs, come with an extremely limited selction of free morphs (with most of the base face and body morphs normally being seperate for-purchase products), and, up until G9, lack anatomical add-ons without purchase of at least one Pro bundle, while, G9 in turn, still has multiple issues that are currently only fully fixed by add-on products produced by PAs.

    I'll have to check how many for each generation exactly, but I do have characters from all of them, starting with the OG Vicky and Michael. I have very few of the first generations though, probably only a handful each up to G2, because I took a break from 3d right after Vicky 3 came out and then only went back in a few years ago.

    Most of my characters are G8, runner-up is G9 by now. I use both of those mainly.

    The question was, how many characters do you own. Not how many addons. None for those either. I morph, using other programs, like zbrush, free morphs from the internet, like deviantart. I don't like most of the characters offered on the daz website. Some PA's use the same over and over. No versatility, their characters all look the same.

    The anatomical parts. well, Daz isn't the only site, that has those. The other sites offer those, without being forced to purchase things I don't ever use.

    I have every generation of Michael (and I think every pre-Genesis base from back when it was a perk of the Platinum Club). I use G2M the most, but Genesis 9 is gaining on him.

    I still need a couple of Victoria 1 through 3 & Michael 1 through 3, I don't remember which I like, just that I don't have them all. It's more to have my Victoria & Michael collection complete than any need for them.

    set it like this: click on categories > characters, but then control-click on modifiers to (-) them out, click "no bundles" along the top, and then the just figure you want G8F. I think this gives the most accurate way. If you don't control-click "modifiers" it doesn't really eliminate them from the count, see the 2 attachments for comparison. I get 190 with modifiers unchecked, but I get 161 with modifiers (-).

    G8F characters - no bundles but modifiers not excluded - 190.jpg
    1950 x 755 - 275K
    G8F characters - no bundles or modifiers - 161.jpg
    1903 x 757 - 259K
