Change how much an item of clothing stretches

Hi - please bear with me while I try to explain!

Is there a way to adjust how much a piece of fabric's mesh is stretched - for example pantyhose in many of the vendor's assets are designed so that they are stretched over the heel -  that is to say if you look at a simple 'net' texture - the squares are bigger at the heels than they are at the shin.  This is baked somehow into the asset and isnt a dynamic thing I assume as the item isnt d-force enabled.

I appreciate this would be a manual adjustment, I just dont know how to do this - geometry editor perhaps?

Thanks for your help!

In most of the cases, morphs and/or joint rotations can make mesh stretch.... but what's the problem you have ?  You see stretched textures?

If so, Geometry Editor won't help at all. You can either fix the issue with Mesh Grabber / Geometry Sculptor in DS, or external modeling / sculpting software.

It is primarily the UV mapping that causes that, if you using a uniform texture.

If you accepted that the UV was cut in more pieces, you can avoid the stretching, but that would mean texturing would be way more difficult as you would have more seams.

But if you look at pantyhose /nylons they are also in real life stretched over the heels, due to how they are made.

  • Thanks both -

Yes I am seeing stretched textures, but its too much in some cases, so just looking to reduce how much it stretches in certain areas if that makes sense! Is there a way to amend the UV mapping in daz?

    Thanks

If it is the textures that is causing the stretching you can find some other textures or load a shader.

  • The stretching is there irrespective of what texture I use, I can reduce everything by increasing the tiling of course but that defeats the purpose.

I assume its linked to the UV - ie the mesh is less dense at specific areas of the UV?

No... even if the areas in UV layout are dense enough, you'll still have the issue of stretched textures due to mesh stretching ~~~

Manipulating the mesh should be the only way to fix it.

Ahh okay so what your saying is the model's skin mesh is what drives the stretching, its not a property of the actual clothes?

So if I had to increase the subd of a specific 'stretched' part - would this help fix it?

    Thanks!

Yep, more or less ~~ As I mentioned above, joint rotations and morph changes drive the mesh stretching on the conformed wearables (with skin bindings...)

This issue also happens to Genesis figures per se... you also can find skin textures stretching on those areas ~~

  • Ok will give that a try!  Thanks!
