Product Suggestion: BDU Uniform

You know what I'd like to see? I'd like to see someone make an at least reasonably accurate clothing set for Genesis 8/8.1 Male and Female based on God's Flannel, the M81 Woodland Camo pattern U.S. Military BDUs. You know what be even cooler? Have the PAGST helmet, soft cap, LBE, gas mask carrier, and such too. Maybe even some texture packs with the Desert Pattern and that kinda weird Chocolate Chip pattern. Maybe even different branch name tapes and the like. I'd buy the heck out of it.
Here's some photos to show you what I'm talking about.

Are you allowed to make direct replica of their uniforms, pattern, etc.?

I never heard such called "God's Flannel". Is that a typo?

That is what we used way back. I still have most of them in my duffel bag in the basement. I don't share the same enthusiasm as you. lol, I haven't worn them in almost 3 decades.

What are you using it for as there are several BDUs in the DAZ Store that are similar that will autofit to Genesis 9 in similar patterns.

  • The YouTuber The Fat Electrician called the M81 pattern God's Flannel in one of his videos and I kinda adopted it because I think it's funny. He actually did a video breaking down the shenanigans behind the adoption of the UCP pattern uniform awhile ago.
I've seen a few military style uniforms in the store and I'd like to see something a little more period accurate to the 80s to early 2000s. I mean they've got reasonably accurate World War 2 Bad Guy uniforms for sale (without any insignia because that stuff will get the law after you in certain countries) so I think it'd be neat to have accurate BDUs, LBE and so forth.

Some fabric shaders but they look mostly of European military I think. I've notice 3D art creation and PAs tend to be more often European, although customers I think are disproportionately American as usual.

DD PBR Camo Fabric Shaders for Iray | Daz 3D

A close but not cigar of the BDUs like you speak of that autofit to G9 easy enough:

Army Uniform for Genesis 3 Male(s) and Genesis 2 Male(s) | Daz 3D (the pattern is too small though and not as enough brown or soft arcs in the pattern too)

Army Uniform Textures for Genesis 3 Male(s) and Genesis 2 Male(s) | Daz 3D (added textures)

My personal favorite of all the different BDUs they've made since I got out are the initial digital camoflage BDUs. They look cool enough to have almost, but not quite, tempted me to buy a couple of BDU sets.

  • Yeah, I've got those. It'd be nice to have a clothing set that's better quality than the older stuff. And I haven't yet found an accurate clothing set with LBE and all the other kit.
I just threw this idea out there because I can't be the only one who would like to do more accurate Cold War/1990s/Early GWOT era renders.

Okay, that BDU uniform is one I wore in early 1990s before my retirement. I served in the Cold War and for all my European assignments, I just had basic issue blue (50s to 70s for women) and later green fatigues (when women were issued male fatigues). The jungle fatiques issued for tours in Vietnam were totally different. No BDUs. But depending on the theatre the fabric was either forest green, desert, or urban. That first photo shows suspenders(?) to carry the weight of the utility belt. Not everyone had that. Even the most basic stuff would pull down our uniform pants. The desert uniform has a patch noting the person is in Iraq and in the Security Police (I believe they have modernized their name but the renaming of specialities happened just as I retired.) and again, the SrA/Sgt is wearing gear not issued to the average Airman. The boots, not sure about the ones in the photos. But unless someone is issued steel toe boots, they can go to Clothing Sales/BX/PX/NX and pick from the authorized styles.

My son also had those uniforms issued to him in the Army in the late 1990s, but had to wear the forest green while stationed in the Mojave Desert.

The current BDUs are very different and available in DAZ. Those designs were in response to the needs of the Middle East theatres.

  • I joined the Army in '99 and was issued Woodland Pattern BDUs. The LBE has shoulder straps to keep your belt where your ammo pouches/grenade carriers, two 1 quart canteens, and (if you were issued one) a holster for your M9 and pistol mag pouches or whatever else you might need (bayonet, etc). The straps also had a thing to clip your first aid pouch (a pressure bandage) and your flashlight. The gas mask carrier had a strap to go over your shoulder so it hung at your hip. If you were the Combat Lifesaver, your bag with your kit hung from a strap across your other shoulder. Mine just stayed in my vehicle most of the time unless I was actually using it. There was body armor too, but I was in the Field Artillery, so I only got a Kevlar flak jacket and the Kevlar helmet. Also, when I was in the field, I wore a green Nomex coverall instead because something something fire retardant (my vehicle had a cargo capacity of 2.5 tons of various explody things, so I personally wasn't that concerned about fire because if my ammo carrier started on fire it wouldn't be burning for very long) instead of BDUs.

There is of course a difference between services and career fields one is in. With the end of the Cold War in the early 1990s and until tensions that led to Desert Storm and later the Balkans, and then Iraq and Afghanistan, the military changed radically. The uniforms changed with the demands of the reality of shifting anticipating battles in Europe to the Middle East and Urban areas.

Reading those, it makes me laugh at all the junk they had us wear, & they have been changing clothing and grooming styles more in the past 25 years than a young teen couple in puppy love on their first date. winklaugh
