Dynamic Cloth plugin - feels abandoned

Hi,

while the dynamic cloth plugin in DAZ3D still works and does its job, there really is not much content for it... and certainly there is not exactly much new content coming. Given that cloth can only be created (to my best knowledge) using the Optitex cloth design solution that really targets professional designers (and is priced accordingly), it seems that it would be nice if something new and fresh should happen in the world of dynamic cloth :)

There have been rumors about a plugin for Marvelous designer, a cloth design software from Korea with a nice and fast interactive solver. That would fit quite nicely with iRay :)  But at this point, I'd be happy with almost anything that would allow a broader user base to actually create cloth.

Dear DAZ - anything new in sight? I'd be more than happy to beta test :)

Recently an item was released, and SimonM (iirc) said more was due.

I'm a fan of the dynamics, and wish there was more, but there is a lot out there, and with the new texture/shader packs, lots can be done in IRAY.

I'm with you though, I'd love there to be more; especially anything that add dynamics to existing clothes. I'm doubtful that will happen, but am more than happy to be proved wrong.

Be sure you've grabbed all the free stuff on Optitex. And there's a good two or three dozen dynamic products in the store that are rarely on sale, so that'll take some time to get through. ;)

But yeah. As for adding dynamics to existing clothes, there are some ways to _somewhat_ use dynamics to affect conforming clothing, by using collision. IF the conforming clothes can handle some 'push' without textures getting mangled, you can fit them to a person, sink it in a little with a push modifier (or fit it to a supersuit or similar), then set it to collide with an appropriate dynamic outfit.

I personally find it much easier using fitting tricks on conforming clothes without the dynamics, but it might be useful for things like four armed characters and whatnot.

Been trying to figure out how to do this, so far without success.

If conforming clothing doesn't have Smoothing modifier, add it with Edit > Object > Geometry > Add smoothing modifier.

Dynamic outfit needs to be frozen (I think).

Adjust the conforming clothing to be mostly intersecting with dynamic, through various fitting tricks (scaling individual portions, etc). Then set collision target to the dynamic outfit, and start working at Collision and Smoothing modifier levels (use as low as possible).

Like I said, it... works ok, but I found it often distorts the conforming UV a bit unless the effect is subtle.
