Are there any sets or packs of mesh based plants/vegetation?

Ones that do not use opacity maps that slow down 3Delight/om_Uber_Enviornment(AO-Raytrace) ???

I have a few sets in store that may suit your requirements.

These sets feature mesh based plants.

I can highly recommend Design Anvils plants, I have 2 of his sets and they have become my go to plants and grass.

A trick to help with the long render times...use the omnifreaker UberSurface/UberSurface 2 shader on the plants and use the Occlusion overide setting on the leaves/flowers/transmapped parts to sat it to that is more 'widespread'/less detailed (higher number).

depends on what you want to render, there is a Bamboo set here at daz that is I think totally without opacity maps. I have it and it renders fast.

Predatrons silver birch trees also renders very fast, also with ray traced and shadow bias at 0.1 or lower

Most of Predatron's more recent plants sets are geometry-only, without transmaps. They are, as a result, somewhat heavy in the scene and can make the workspace a little sluggish, depending on your RAM and video card, but definitely worth it, especially for 3Delight.
