Textures for what? Iray or 3Delight or both?

The surface is Iray, but it renders pretty well in 3delight.

EDIT: It seems that some surfaces, like the Grey Tube of the Nicoll Tandem, are set in 3Delight, while the majority is set in Iray.

nice and I have one or two questions:

    1. is the light source from the same direction in both renders?

    2. what light did you use in the 3Delight render? I guess with shadow softness you get also good results. I render in 3Delight and use AoA lights and they are really good.

    3. for me Iray looks a bit like the ordinary deep shadow map so nothing new or special.

    1. No, I used the default HDR for the Iray (you can tell by the sky reflection in some of the screens) and AOAs Distant&Ambient light for the 3Delight, so totally different lighting.

    2. For 3Delight, I use mostly a combination of AOAs Ambient Light and Distant LIght. But I just roughly added the light to the render; 25% light strength at the ambient, and 70% at the distant. It would probably look bettwer with more tweaking of the lights.

    3. I just added the iray render for quick comparison of the texture between the two render engines. There was no intention to create great art. ;-)
