Custom Content Library is Gone SOLVED

IceDragonArtIceDragonArt Posts: 12,727

So I have been gone for more than several years.  I went to use Daz Studio today and my custom content library is gone.  And it doesn't look like I can recreate it?  Mind you I am still using 4.12 as I don't think that my laptop can handle the newest version.  I spend a LOT of time on that custom content and would like to have it back or at least recreate it.  Any thoughta?

What does it look like in Edit > Preferences > Content > Content Directory Manager under Daz Studio Content?

  • IceDragonArtIceDragonArt Posts: 12,727

none of these paths have the custom content categories.  You can see where I tried to recreate a custom category.  I can make the category but I can't drag and drop any of the files to copy them over like I used to be able to. And the one I spent 4 months creating is just gone.

  • Are you mising folders, under Daz Studio Formats (and Poser Formats) in the Content Library pane or Categories/Products (in most other content panes and lists)?

By the way, you shouldn't be pointing directly to the /data/cloud folder there - if the files are found, which depends on the database entries, they wiull be found given the base content  directory path - which you already have selected.

I wasn't aware that you could drag and drop. But if you e.g. select 'Daz Studio Formats' you can add new paths.

In your Poser content, you have some nested libraries on your E drive, i.e. libraries that is containing other libraries. That will usually lead to issues.

Right, I'd been thrown by the separation and/or the caps vs sentence case but yes - all those subfodlers of My Daz 3D Library on E: should not be there, not just the one in /data/cloud.

If you do have Connect (/data/cloud) installs that you want to access without using the install through DS route then* you need to take the stuff out of the 1_##### folder and drop it in the root content directory (e.g. the My Daz3d Library folder) to merge, assuming you are on Windows (Mac users have to be a bit more fiddly, or use a command prompt - otherwise they will overwrite one set of  folders with the other instead of merging them)

I had asked it to find all Daz content in my drives to see if I could find my missing custom categories.  I can remove all of that and just go with one external drive.

I am not missing the original files, I am missing the custom category system I did.  So I could arrange my products in a way that made sense to me, and to make things easier to find.  Those are gone.

This is what I am missing. Also, where is the postgres folder supposed to actually go?  It hasn't worked since I originally loaded 4.12.  I suspect its not in the right place but I never use smart content so it didn't matter much.

This box used to have a list of all the categories, both the initial ones through daz and the custom categories and you could add things wherever you needed them.  It basically linked them to the origianl categories but I could do them in a manner that suited the way I work better.

  • PostgreSQL must be working  or you wouldn't have those category entries at all. It does, however, seem to have lost all vendor categories or turned then into User data (the U on the icon). Have you reimported metadata? Had you exported the user data previously?

I get a postgres error message every time I start the program.  I've never exported user data I have no idea how to do that. I have DIM set up to send all of my content to my external drive.  Usually, I just plug in the drive and it all populates.  I can try to import the metadata but I think I got an error message when I tried it.  Will try it again.  So far, uninstalling and re installling with DIM is working but of course I have over 7000 filies and that doesn't count the 10000 files from other vendors....

  • Custom categories are editing the user data.

ahh I see.  But those categories are gone.  I also think I totally screwed up my DIM installation  Would you happen to know what is supposed to be on the top bar for manifest archive?  Its blank and of course, now nothing works.

I totally appreciate your patience with me!

  • The Manifest Archive should be the folder that contains all the .dsx files that DIM has created when installing a product (not the ones that site bside the zip files) - it tells DIM what files it plaed and exactly where. You can set it to its default by right-click on the box that (should) hold the path listing.

Okay, I found the Manifest Archives and that seems to have found my custom categories and everything.  Which is great.  However, DIM still insists on loading everything to the C/users, application roaming file.  They need to go to my E Drive.  My c drive has zero space for all of this content.  All of the files are in the e drive, how do I get Studio to recognize them and DIM to load new stuff to the right place?  Oh and all of a sudden my Connect library is working but not my MyDAZ3d library.  Which is where all the files are and should be going to.

Go into DIM Advanced Settings and change the content library. Better also check that the Manifest files get saved in the correct place, and downloaded files if you don't delete them after installation.

I do delete after install, I am copying the folder its sending everything to in the c drive to my e drive and will try and get it to go there instead.  Thats the last thing I think to get it to work properly.

  • Look in the list of paths in the bottom section of the Instalaltion tab of Advanced Settings (which is probably where you want to change the manifests Archive) - click the ... button to the right of the current entry to select a different location, or click the + to add a new path and then seelct it as the current destination. That will not update the location stoed in the manifest files for existing installs, however - for that you will need to reinstall using current paths (that is a right-click option in the Installed tab if you kept the zips) or use a text editor to edit the manifest files.

So if I copy the Manifest Folder to my E drive and point it there, it should work?  Everything is mostly right but when it downloads the packages it downloads them to the c drive which doesn't have enough space.  I keep getting a retry when I try to download.  There are over 9000 files in the C drive that need to be in the E drive.  It is set to delete after installation but I can't get it to download

Okay, it looks like everything is in Studio and ready to go.  However, DIM still thinks that nothing is installed, even though it is. How do I tell DIM that everything is installed?  Its all there in Studio and works just fine.

It is the manifest files DIM uses to keep track of what is installed and where.

So if DIM not is pointing to the right folder it will not find anything is installed.

Thank you.  I've copied the path in C to E and pointed DIM to the E path and everything is now going to where its supposed to.

Many thanks to all of you for your time and patience!

My custom categories are gone again.  I am at a total loss.  Everything was working fine last night.  Today, gone, and no option to even start over.  Would I be better off just uninstalling and reinstalling DIM?  All of my paths look correct in DIM although the postgreg stuff says its not connected in the little hamburger at the top and when I click on attempt to connect, nothing happens.  Everything is pointing to the same spot it was pointing to last night.   Or do I need to uninstall and re install Studio itself?   I am seriously about to cry.  There isn't even the option to do custom categories.    Also note that the the connect content is also gone.

  • Judging by the list of folders in the Daz Studi Content Library pane you have a lot of nested content diectories (one inside another) which may cause various issues.

  • IceDragonArtIceDragonArt Posts: 12,727

Where exactly are the postgresql files supposed to be installed.   I just got a message pop up that says they are not installed to the correct location.  But I don't know how they would have been moved

So in case this happens to anyone else.  The postgre script got uninstalled somehow. (no idea how, because I have the really important bits in DIM set to hidden so I don't accidentally do something and have issues exactly like this.  I reinstalled, andthen had to go into content data base management and point it to the right spot.
