I have questions about landscape products!

Renderosity - 3D Models | 3D Software | 3D Art

I thought I would make one big question for some landscaping art I want to use as examples.

Please help with anything you can.

Thank you so much!

I'd love to help if I can, but I'm not understanding what your question is... could you be more specific?

  • Oh, no!!  I will rewrite this tomorrow!!

    I am so sorry!

    What I love:

Small, Hilly Area Behind, Flat area in front.  Lined with rocks.  Beautiful water.  Tall weeds, Wild Flowers.  I want small hills with both green grass and autumn grass so badly.

The first one appears to be created with UltraScenery or UltraScenery2. Either one would be capable of generating that terrain with those plants. The water, rocks, grass, daisies are the giveaway as to where it came from. The tree may be from another product.

For the first render, it looks close to what you could get using UltraScenery (who was released a month before that render was posted):

    https://www.daz3d.com/ultrascenery--realistic-landscape-system

I would generate a meadow without any three but with a river, then place the camera in the middle of the river, putting a three, a man and car and voila (the voila likely involve trials and errors to get good lighting).

The second one, the character is wearing the sundress from Lady Littlefox (here: https://www.daz3d.com/dforce-sunny-days-2-for-genesis-8-females ) but that's all I know. I don't know where the plants are from if they are not from Martin J Frost, but you can also check the stores from people like HowieFarkes, Predatron, Gendragon3D or JeffersonAF, who also have plants to share.

You could built that scene yourself once you have the plants, by creating layers of grass and these tall plants around the character and the tree in the background, where you want it. You'll need layers around the character and enough behind her to hide the gap between the train and the platform the foreground and the background.

In general, you can look at the stores from people like Flipmode, Peanterra or Andrey Pestryakov or vikike176 (likely others too): they have environments of all sizes, from vast areas to small vignettes. As an example, I don't have them, but Woods modules by Peanterra could be something that could be useful to built small scales wood scenes.

    I am so excited!!

I have Ultra-Scenery...just the main one and I need to learn it.  I purchased it two years ago for around $5.00!  It's a little overwhelming.  I'm going to have a watch a lot of tutorials and read a lot about that one first :)  I am not certain what I can do with the Base Product.  I need to see which Add-on's I need.  I am using Daz Studio 4.12 and that could be a problem.  I don't even know what "Json" files are.  So, I have a lot to learn there!

TerraNaturals Volume 1 - Desert is Poser, however I really like those.  I have a lot of Traveler's products from RDNA.  They are not really for up close work, more like what is called Billboards now :)  A lot of people want really realistic products and then filter them to a hazy, vintage look.  So these are perfect for that LOL

Mighty Oak is going in my wishlist.  That is just beautiful!!

I have Curious Respite.  It's funny how many things I have collected in 20 years and haven't played with yet :(

I have Wood Modules, which I love!  I might take plants from that!!

Simple Grasslands Expanse | Daz 3D is wonderful and I am getting that!

What awesome suggestions!!  Thank you all so much!

I am doing a women in an Autumn Field in a long dress in the wind.

I am having trouble simulating dForce - Chemise a la Reine-G8F | Daz 3D , however I will get it and it will be wonderful.  I have, also, tried dForce - Wench Top and Dress for G8F | Daz 3D.  Both keep blowing up.  :(

    Anyway, having a blast.

The fourth image: "From the internet. What I love.  Tall grasses and flowers on a hilly area."

Because of the lighting that is almost certainly a composite (tbh, not done all that well - you can tell because of the lighting) and I don't think it's a hilly area... That's just your eyes being tricked by the apparent density of the ground level plants (around the woman) hiding the base of the background plants and the sloping height of the background tall plants (that effect is helped by moving those to the right a bit further away from the camera - it is done well)

However, there are similar plants available in Daz (some for Ultrscenery). Take a look at:

(Other products/artists mentioned by others in previous posts and a store-search will yield hundreds more)

If your computer (and/or GPU) struggles to render such images, you could composite in the same way <-- The background plants are one render, the woman and the plants around her another, the very foreground plants may be another render as well (just keep the same lighting for all of them!). Then the three images are overlayed in Photoshop (or free Gimp, or similar). It's a pretty easy technique to use and can work well.

    Your suggestions are wonderful!

I have several things in my cart.  I need to decide what to get :)

@Jan_Scrapper this is the link to the second USC, USC2 commercial thread where you can find a lot of issues others have had, solutions, inspirations, suggestions and just fun experiments. In 2021 the compatible vesion of D|S was 4.15 but now it is listed at 4.24. And Accelerator for UltraScenery was listed as 4.14 in 2020. Remember, you can always have two versions of Daz Studio installed, so long as you protect the current one you have by slightly changing the name. But one rule of thumb to remember, let DIM install all scripts, plugins, and add-ons.

I am really interested in installing the newest Daz Studio.  I have several Genesis 8.1 products and even Genesis 9 things I would love to use.

I did read that I could install a second Daz Studio, however I must install a Beta Version.  I might even have to install it on my D drive.  My computer has 2 drives and the C drive is almost full :(

I installed Carrara on the D Drive and it works just fine.  I only use it to take props apart and correct free 3d models.  I don't actually know how to make anything.

I'm glad you told me that I should use DIM to install all scripts, plugins and add-ons.  I had never let DIM install anything for me until 2 years ago.  I wanted to reinstall all of my hair files automatically.  So, I changed to path of where to install all of my hair, which was my hair library.  I have many libraries...all on external hard drives.  So only Daz Studio is on my hard drive.

So, do I just make up the folder for Daz Studio under my D:Programs and let DIM install it?  I show on the attachment where I think I would change the path to install a second Daz Studio.

If I mess up my current Daz Studio, I do not have a backup up that version :(  I still cannot believe I did that, but I did!  I tried to use Daz Studio 15 years ago, but never actually learned.  Then, I wanted to use Genesis so badly, that I began using Daz Studio in 2018, I believe.  I downloaded the current version at that time and installed it.  Where my downloaded copy is, I just do not know!!  I am showing my versions of Daz Studio that I have.  Of course, when I open DIM to download products, it shows the 4.24 version of Daz Studio.  I attached a copy of that.  I go to my products listing on the Daz3d Site and it shows Daz Studio version 4.25.  So, I am a little confused about which version to install and why I have to have DIM install my Daz Studio software.

I am absolutely interested in learning UltraScenery.  I have to purchase add-ons a little at a time and when they go on sale.

Thank you so much for your advice!!

Daz Studio 4.24 is the current stable version of Daz Studio. I don't know what are the differences between that version and Daz Studio 4.12 (I started with DS 4.21).

Daz Studio 2025 is the current Alpha version of Daz Studio. It's useful to have it in maintly two cases (outside of the obvious case of you wanting to track and report bugs):

    1. To use Iray with any Nvdia Geforce 5X00, because the Iray plugin in Daz Studio 4.24 is not compatible with them and can't be upgraded to a compatible version.
    2. To use Filament on Mac.

You'll have to ask someone else because I don't remember doing it on Windows, but you can have multiple versions of Daz Studio installed at the same time on your computer, but it's best to check how to do it before trying it, because I think on top of having an install directory made for each version, you have to save the Default ressources of that older versions.

I think @richardandtracy did it and maybe is still doing it.

I just rename the folder in program files then install the new one

I create a shortcut for the exe of the renamed one, I have 4.11 as well as the current one as many older things that are supported render faster on it

  • Guys!!!  This is so very exciting!!

I am working on my "Girl in a Field" project right now.  Then, by golly, I am going to install the current Daz Studio!!

Thank you all so very much!!

  • I have 4.11, 4.12, 4.14, 4.16, 4.21 and 4.22 on my machine. I manually install and change the install directory name after installation so the installer dosn't find the last version.

    Regards,

    Richard

  • While online DIM will show then name of the package on the Daz servers, if you go offline it will show the currently downloaded package anme instead. You have to be working offline to install an older package.

While having multiple different versions of DS 4 installed in different foldrs may work you should bear in mind that it is not supported. The potential for clashes in registry or AppData stored data and setttings makes it risky.

Clashes in the registery is what I am so afraid of!  Definitely understand having mutiple versions installed is not supported.  I don't even support it LOL :)  Kidding, but I certainly understand.

That is so interesting that you have so many.  Which do you prefer?

I have two versions of Paint Shop Pro.  I have 8X and 2023.  8X allows me to use all of my fun filters...Alien Skin, Flaming Pear,  Eye Candy 4000...just to name a few.  I was into digital scrapbooking 20 years ago :) and purchased those.  Anyway, 2023 is so much more updated, so I use both :)

Honestly there are many lanscaping and vegetation programs which are much more realistic than DzStudio. You must find a way to import these. One of my favorite is Gaea from Quad spinner. Plant factory from Eon/Bentley is also a must, so is Vue (both are now free), the render engine is really old, but imported in Daz, it can be fabulous.

There are also some vendors who are making outstanding products for DazStudio : HowieFarkes is my favorite, MartinJfrost is making extremely realistic plants, Predatron is also good enough.

With all that you can make your own landscapes with vegetations, it's more time consuming but really worth it.

    Have fun !

Which do I prefer? Probably 4.21, Iray is reasonably fast for its rendering and capable. From version 4.22 on DS tries to open an advert window when you want a new scene, and I am not having that (the machine is offline anyway, so it wouldn't display adverts, simply waste my time while it tries to download stuff I don't want to see). I keep the others because I do freebies & like to check that they work on earlier versions.

RichardH says the keeping of multiple versions is unsupported. This is true. However, whatever is said publicly, multiple versions are actually supported alongside each other by DAZ - the Beta & Full version. To minimise the code changes when the Beta is promoted to being the full version, the beta version has obviously been written to behave sensibly and live alongside a full version. It would take effort to add in code to make it behave badly once promoted to the full version... and why would DAZ want to annoy people by doing that, especially as it will have to live alongside the next Beta? As it pans out, DAZ Studio, whether supported or not, does behave nicely alongside other versions of itself. The only thing that gets a bit grumbly when you use a different version is the dForce Kernel which insists on re-compliling itself for each different version first time you use the different version. Beyond that, DS behaves nicely, sharing all the registry settings without grief. As it's not 'officially' supported, there is room for it to go horribly wrong, which is why I keep the old install files available so I can kill off a badly behaved new version and revert to a better behaved older version.

    Regards,

    Richard

The beta and general release use separate folders in AppData and branches in the Registry (or plists in MacOS) for their settings and data, so they can coexist safely.

    on this topic

many have used Vue to render HDRi panoramic images because it is particularly good at that and landscapes, volumetric clouds, biomes

Bryce isn't bad either, or Carrara

Vue is the leading choice I have noticed among PAs
