SF Anime Character Builder

Woohoo!  I was exceitied to see this!  laugh  Not a huge Anime crowd here, it seems, so this was a real surprise to me.  Probably one of the first "new release" and over $10 items I will have purchased in many, many months.  Kudos on the good work  yes  Off to to browse the other stores in case I can use the extra 20%  cheeky

I think daz does have a big toon/stylized/anime crowd if you look at places like deviantArt and tumblr where that type of work is appreciated. On these forums maybe not so much but these forums aren't a good gauge of much when it comes to the outside world.

So not suprised to see it, but surprised to see it so soon. I grabbed it reluctantly after skimming the video. Will tinker with it later when I get a chance.

Some of the styles looked really neat, so it was hard to resist.

True.  After browsing the stores, I foundFuseling's FSL Genki Keiko 6, which I had never seen...now its decision time.  Too poor (or cheap) to buy both ;-)

I probably need to see if I can migrate Keiko to G3F using the Kattey thread.

Keiko will be tough but Slosh posted some steps to help with the eyes. The body should go over fine, its just the face rigging which the toons have some extra work to get right. I sent over Hitomi and A6 myself. (but now I use slosh's A6 shape for G3F since it's better than my effort was)

I missed a lot of the Keiko stuff because I wasn't active during her release and didn't find her that great...I did like a few hairs and grabbed those howver. Then months later I stumbled on bunch of morphs for her that I thought rocked. So now I do enjoy Keiko, just not stock Keiko.

Yeh, I've got it, not a huge use, but I suspect that small amounts of morphs and the skins can be utilised outside anime.

Do tell!?  I got Tofusan's Keiko Doll, which I liked the subtle updates he made.  What intrigued you?  (I'm the op so I can go a bit off topic, lol)

Glad you like it!  It is a bit of an experiment; DAZ has never had an anime-themed set this large, but we thought there was market space for a bigger diversity of types than one or two per generation.  So far it seems to be repaying our optimism this morning. :)

You got it out at the right time IMO. Not at home so haven't had a chance to dabble but the video helped sell me on it and I normally don't bother with videos but for some reason this AM i didn't want to read the product page.

@3dOutlaw there have been a few characters like Juvi and Effie I liked and some more I still haven't gotten since I'm trying to slow down on buying pretty looking stuff. And now my G3F tools keep getting stronger, today I got toons and boob control...chaos will happen I'm sure. I've been slowly moving over a handful of morphs I really like from older generations but want to keep G3F as clean as possible. G2F has all my morphs from V4, and Genesis....as well as her own so she's got a pretty messy assortment but tons of control and options.

While anime isn't my thing, I wish you guys the best with it!

Am I right in thinking that the toon camera thing isn't required completely?

  • SickleYieldSickleYield Posts: 7,649

It isn't required at all.  That's an "if you're already using this camera" type of option, for people wanting to create more of a 2D look using zigraphix's product.  It has its own separate materials subfolder and the like.

  • 3dOutlaw3dOutlaw Posts: 2,481

Yea, I noticed it said ToonyCam was "required product", but after the video, it looked like just an option if you like. (though I have it)  Haven't heard zig around lately, was holding my breath on that Aiko3 thing.

The video is a great idea imo.  I would love to see more vendors do that.

Thanks Lars, i took a look, they are cute :)  Haiku is in my wishlist now.

Originally when I submitted the product I had added the qualifier "required to use ToonyCam options." Obviously that didn't make it through the web setup. :(  I'm sorry the product page ended up that way, I'd hate for that to turn anyone off buying it.

  • I saw this today and wasn't going to buy it at all.  I'm not really in to the anime stuff.  However, I love Sickleyield's products and decided to watch the video.  I have to say that the video is what actually sold me on the product because she was showing the interesting things one can do with it and I knew I could use the product even though I'm not really into the whole anime thing.  It looks like a great product and I will be playing with it as soon as I'm done with my current renders.

Like you I bought becuase of the video showed me what I was getting far better than the promo shots did; they are accurate, but limiting.

Hah yeh I agree, and funny at times too; I still chuckle when I think of Sickle's comments on a video in early IRAY days about the eyes being 'Dead and Scary'. cheeky

I got to tinker witht his a bit. Since the morphs are scattered all over, searching anime in parameters tab is really best way to go. I like search though so it's not a knock against the morphs..just a tip.

intial review suggests they will indeed be helpful in tweaking characters out. Even if you don't like Japanese influenced anime, I think the morphs can be used for many types of stylized characters if you fine tune them.

having up to date cartoon eyebrows is also useful:)

The blue ones are shown on Mizuki on that same page.  The orange ones are shown on Sonya on the next promo over, the red ones on Tomoko, and the blue ones on Yuko again.  The green ones are on Kaoru.

Snapped it up without a second thought... though my first thought was to wonder if you planned on either a g2m or g3m version?
