Just curious. Is Lunardo the only new Daz character this month?

It's a cute set, but it's obviously supposed to be reminiscent of the original Mac Tonight/Moon Man, and he ended up being hijacked by some pretty undesirable people. Hopefully he'll be used more for whimsical and fun renders.

I was holding my premier coupon for a new bundle, unfortunatelly not this one. Not my cup of tea. I did put the buggy in my cart for the new item to trigger discounts.

Me too, not my cup of tea. Hope there will be another one next week or I will lose my monthly free character coupon and I would prefer not to lose it.

Lunardo isn’t a Daz core G9 figure, so unless they drop a new release next week, the answer is that there’s no Daz character this month (the last one was Bishop 9).

    You are right.
  • I recall someone mentioning in another thread that there wasn't a core figure last September either. I am going to start monitoring what's available so I can grab something before the end of the month and not lose the monthly coupon.

Yep, Toshi 9 came out on August 30th and Vicky on October 11th, no Core figures in between.

Lunardo is in the member free coupon choice though

Yes, we can get the Lunardo bundle free with our monthly coupon but I hope we can have another option next week.

Welp. If nothing appears this month. I'll probably pick up Mercilus 9. Even though I haven't got a use for him.

As I recall, some years ago, it was traditional not to have core character releases during the PA Festival to keep the focus on the PAs. They got away from that in recent years, but maybe they're moving back.

If I'm not mistaken these releases aren't core characters this month and being the PA sale they are PA bundles. I'd have to double check.

I'm using the character (as both a male and female) with the character dialed back to 20-30%; they make great aliens, especially when you play with different textures. I don't know that I'd find a lot of use dialed in at 100%, but lower percentages with some other characters' DNA dialed in make for some fun aliens, especially Filatoon ones.

Uksn & Thandey bundles are also part of the Premier freebie selection. Even if you are buying, not using the coupon, Iksn, Thandey & Lunardo are arguably a better deal than the most recent core characters. The undiscounted price is $90 vs. $100, which lowers discounted prices when they are eligible for those. Plus they are larger bundles; the character & 4-5 other items - not one of which is a HD add-on. Even if you bought the character separately as a Gold Ticket, the bundle - if you like the items - is still a good deal because of the GT &/or owned items discounts.

As for me, I think I'll get just Lunardo as a GT today & probably use the freebie coupon for the rest of his bundle towards the end of the month as I do enjoy SF stuff. Now if next week's hypothetical new bundle catches my eye, or an older bundle I want gets added to the selection, that plan may change.

I really REALLY wish PAs would stop doing that, using meme and IP figures and such without putting the slightest hint in the promo! I wasn't aware of all the history surrounding Moon Man, and you're quite right, it makes for some dire reading. Now the character is kinda ruined for me. But maybe the creator wasn't aware of the controversy. Still, I'm thinking of filing a ticket.

The only option for me would be to get Lunardo since I have all the Daz core figures. Well, better than nothing and the coupon would not be lost.

While not "whimsical", I'll be using him/her in fun renders and animations, as intended.

Mac Tonight was barely a blip on my radar, and I was blissfully unaware of Moon Man. I think as long as we don't make Lunardo characters with blank white skin or white hoods, we should be fine, just like we don't put white hoods on our regular characters for obvious reasons.

I plan on using Lunardo (dialed back a bit) for aliens in my animations because Rawart made a great character, as he always does. To not use him because I'm worried about Moon Man associtations (especially when my characters' actions do *not* align with Moon Man) would mean I'd also have to not use my frog-based aliens because I'd be afraid of an association with Pepe, or not use any of the dozens of demons and devils in my runtime, etc..

Thanks for sharing that, Wendy. I had no idea, either. Wow.

I feel I have to step in and comment here.

Yes Lunardo is a guy with a cresent moon for a head, and yes Mac Tonight had a cresent moon for a head, but THAT is where the resemblance stops. The image of a cresent moon anthropomorphized with a face has been a trope in illustration long before Mac Tonight and it will continue to be long after.

The face on Lunardo, the body proportions and the textures are no where close to Mac...and that was intentional. The face is based on old world gnome style faces to give it a classical illustrative quality. This character is purely intended as a "Man in the moon" not an IP knock-off...........thank you very much

Thank you for commenting on this and clarifying your intentions. Your character for sure looks much nicer - as in both more friendly and much more well done - than either Mac Tonight or the infamous Moon Man, and I don't regret buying him. I haven't seen any character I liked as much as this one for quite a while. Looking now at the pictures of the memes, there is a strong likeness, naturally, because both are half moon face guys with glasses. And many people will make the connection, just as forum posters here did. But like others said above, what really matters is the way we use the character ourselves.

my main point was I was entirely ignorant of the meme

I only recently learned of Pepe the frog

its the inadvertentness of offending someone without any bad intention that concerned me

wouldn't be the first time I innocently did so frompure ignorance

I used my September coupon for the Lunardo character bundle. For Lunardo himself I saw no use, although I find the character very likeable. I was attracted by the other elements of the bundle. Now, after watching wsterdan's great alien morphs, I also have ideas for Lunardo. Thank you!

Gorgeous! Thanks for showing what can be done with Lunardo.

While I absolutely love your characters and own a lot of them, I almost never do them justice. Because I'm almost always doing toons, your fantastic textures and shaders are lost in my images.

Luckily, your incredible shapes still show up perfectly.

    Thanx

Glad you can use them however works for you. I will keep trying to keep the interesting shapes going :)
