DAZ's handling of multiple lights, cameras, etc.

Hello!

When I load, for example, the sixth or seventh camera or light into a scene, a problem can occur: the automatically assigned label and the name may be different. A warning message appears about possible issues caused by various suffixes. I confirm the automatic correction and close DAZ to work on the scene later.

However, the next time I load, the assigned labels and names (sometimes) change again. As a result, my notes or reminders—such as "Working with camera (6)"—become irrelevant because "Camera (6)" is now called "Camera (4)" (or something else).

Of course, this isn't a big problem—most (of my) scenes don't have many different cameras (I think with lights it can be happen sooner). Still, it's a bit unsettling.

So my questions are:
1. Are there real problems caused by different names and labels?
2. Can I avoid this automatic renaming of scene elements during loading?

Thank you in advance for your explanations, links, or suggestions.

  • Make them unique yourself, by editing the name and label, rather than using the auto-appended (#)

  • Thank you for this tip. I have to smile a little. It's a risky endeavor to use humor in languages you don't speak fluently. I’m aware of this, but I’d like to give it a try anyway and kindly ask for your understanding: I could put the software approach all aside, take some clay, and shape what I want. I have a camera and lamps—so why use software? :)

Automatic naming and labeling are features I’d like to use. The separation between names and labels might be intended to make the process easier for users (the computer itself probably has no use for it). However, it doesn't make sense if it causes persistent problems. Additionally, it’s problematic if automatically assigned names and labels change when loading ((exception should be mentioned: if multiple objects share the same names or labels. In such cases, changes are necessary, but that’s a merging issue, not a loading issue).

That’s why I prefer to skip this small step, trusting that software is created by humans—and that humans can modify and improve it.

In the meantime, this workaround will handle the issue—as long as I don't name my light 'Light (8)' :)
