Clothes won't fall

I saw this prior forum post. I have the same issue. Nothing there worked. https://www.daz3d.com/forums/discussion/326481/d-force-clothes-don-t-fall?srsltid=AfmBOorjh5N9DkAUBAB5A5iuM-Pk7h3NPtegGIvqMtSMqyzbxFvAggJv

I have a dress that I want to fall. It just hangs in the air (and wilts). I can't figure out what I'm missing based on the other question's responses.

(EDIT: some of the attachments didn't post)

There is a weightmap on the dress, that is exluding part of the dress frpm silumation.

Try to remove the dForce modifier and reapply it again - that should clear the weights.

That, I didn't think of. Worked. Thanks a lot.

Still curious how to "fix" the old dForce modifier if anyone wants to chime in.

If you add dForce Modifier Weight Node back to the Dress via : Create > New dForce Modifier Weight Node, with Node Weight Brush tool, you'll see the weight mapping and why it doesn't fall. Tweak the weight as you wish. (ss1)

Then what do you mean by " old dForce modifier " ?

What you just explained, to adjust the existing modifier on the clothes rather than remove it and replace it with a default modifier.

I couldn't __find__ the weight modifier that was causing the issue. They all said 0. At least the ones I could see. I'm hoping to hear where I failed to look. ("Old" refers to the weight node that was causing issues. I did delete it and it solved the problem. But I didn't learn how the problem came into existence. I would like to find out why I couldn't find the place in the GUI where the smoking gun was. There must have been some way to tweak a number in a dialog and the dress would move. Sure delete and restart works. But it doesn't expand my knowledge of weight nodes in Daz.)

  • Second post. I didn't understand crosswind and I didn't fully explain. The original dress asset doesn't come with a weight node. I ran the simulation and it didn't drop. I then added the weight node and it still didn't drop. There's something in the asset that as causing it not to drop. (Or at least I think that's what's going on.)

  • The weight map belongs to the dForce modifier, but that cannot be seelcted so you have to use a dForce Modifier Weight [Access} Node to get at it - you can add one to a dForce item that lacks it and you will have access to the existing weight map and can edit it.

It isn't an issue, some people add weight maps to control how the cloth behaves and they may then remove the weight access node for tidyness and/or to avoid confusing users who may think they are emant to use it in the regualr simulation process.

Correct, the original dress doesn't have a weight node because after the vendor saved the figure asset in which the weight map's stored,  they deleted the weight node. Then if you add the weight node back to the dress, the weight map will be retrieved, as what I showed in the above screenshot.

You can see the weight map there, notice the blue area circled in below screenshot 1 ?  They're just painted with a very small amount of weight (appr. 0.1 ~ 0.5%). That's why it doesn't fall when you simulate it.

If you paint a full weight on the areas like in screenshot 2....  it'll fall with simulation.
