New to Genesis
Okay...I've been a V4 nut for sometime now, but due to a recent purchase of Carrara 8.5 Pro, I now have Genesis to figure out. And with that, I have a few questions.
As I said, I'm not really farmiliar with the whole Genesis gang, but I want to figure it out, and there are so many numbers that it's a little confusing for me, so...
1. Am I correct in saying that there is a Genesis, Genesis 2 and a Genesis 3?
2. Do items for Genesis also work with Genesis 2, because in my library I see Genesis Genetalia (male and female) but only a Genesis 2 figure came with my bundle.
3. How many "V" figures work with Genesis 2? At first I thought there was just a V5, but now I have seen a V6?
4. Is the Genesis series leaps and bounds from V4.2?!?! Will the crossover be worth it?!?!
I don't have much to say in regards to Genesis 3/V7 because she doesn't work the Carrara 8.5 Pro side of town (I returned my recent bundle purchase), but I hope the future is bright for her :D

1. Yes, you are correct.
3. All the 5's (V5, M5, etc) are for Genesis 1. All the 6's are for Genesis 2. All the 7's are for Genesis 3.
All 3 versions of Genesis have their own genitalia; as far as I know, they aren't interchangeable, and they're only available in the pro bundles. Hair and clothing can usually be used with varying degrees of success; Genesis 1 clothing and hair will work on Genesis 2 Male & Female, but needs an additional product to work with Genesis 3.
Geografts (like genitals) and textures don't transfer because the meshes have different geometries. Generally speaking, clothing and hair can be autofit since that uses the rigging for scaling. For what it's worth, there's a ton of content available for Genesis (1) that you can concentrate on for maximum compatibility. If you're mainly interested in females, then G2F might be where you want to invest.
Correct. The geometry changes each generation(which means geografting wouldnt work), and geografting doesn't work via autofit anyway.
When you say "Pro Bundles" are you talking about the V5, 6 & 7 Pro Bundles? I don't see Pro Bundles for any Genesis figures.
That helps out a lot! Thanks, sriesch!
You should have Genesis1 with your Carrara 8.5 pro purchase too, it comes with both the V5 and M5 pro bundles (V5/M5 are both Genesis1, Genesis1 can morph fully between male and female figures, therefore you can easily put male outfits on females and vice versa). Genesis1 can also 'autofit' to wear your V4 and M4 clothing too.
Genesis2 is divided into 2 separate figures again, there is a Genesis2male and a Genesis2female. In Carrara, Genesis2 is not as fully supported, you won't be able to 'autofit' Genesis1 or M4 or V4 clothing to be worn by your Genesis2 (although you can easily open up Studio, autofit the clothing onto Genesis2 there, then save it as new clothing item for Genesis2, then open Carrara and have Genesis2 wear those clothes). V6 is a Genesis2female character morph and M6 is a Genesis2male character morph. I ended up picking up a lot of Genesis2 stuff that I don't really need or use, as I find I prefer Genesis1 anyway.
Genesis3 is the newest character on the scene, V7 is a Genesis3female. There isn't a Genesis3male released yet, but it's likely soon on the horizon. Genesis3 doesn't work in Carrara currently.
Yes. Michael 5, Victoria 5, Freak 5, and so on are all Genesis figures; their pro bundles cime with the genital geografts. Likewise, Michael 6, Victoria 6, Gia 6, and the other Genesis 2 figures. Same for Genesis 3.
I've stuck with V4/M4 for a very long time, and only recently begun to phase over to Genesis1. I do think Genesis1 is a superior approach, and now that there is a V4 pose converter product that batch converts my tons of V4 poses it's very much more usable to me. The autofitting of clothing can mean no more pokethrough issues, even in animation, also Genesis1 bends at the joints much better that default V4/M4. And it's a real advantage to have clothing that will work on nearly any shape figure, so in those instances where you found the perfect outfit for your male character, but the vendor only made a female version (as an example) Genesis1 solves that problem pretty handily.
Since the OP mentioned they were using Carrara, and they also mentioned genital geografts, I remember reading somewhere that the Genesis gens do not work so well in Carrara, some issue with the textures not lining up correctly. Can a Carrara expert confirm this?
I'd like to thank all of you for the very helpful information! I think I'll look further into the G2 model now. It's interesting that Carrara has trouble with the texturing of the geografts. Could there be a fix for this someday, maybe even by a 3rd party vender, or is it just and acceptable loss?
Very true, actually. Most geografts work fine, but the genital geografts immediately get there UV maps scrambled as soon as they are attached to the Genesis1 figure. I believe there is a workaround some have found to make it work, but since I don't do a lot of close up renders of that region I'm not an expert on how to get around this/fix it, so I could be wrong, but I can confirm this is correct.
