When I try to open DAZ Studio I get " valid CMS connection could not be established". Initially I  had DS successfully installed with CMS working. Then the external drive I was installing content to failed and messed up DIM. So, I tried uninstalling DIM and DS and  reinstalling them but I get the 'can't find a valid CMS' message. I  have tried muliple times to uninstall both DAZ Studio and DIM along with deleteing the app data; but evrytime I reinsstall and then open DS I get the 'can't find a valid CMS' message'. and I even used windows resore point to revert to an earlier setting but to no avail. Anybody have any suggestions?

May I suggest that you go into Daz Studio Preferences, go to Content tab, Content Directory Manager, and repoint your CMS Cluster Directory, Daz Studio Content and Poser Content to the appropriate location.  My suspicion is that the CMS Cluster Directory location was altered when you dealt with the failed drive so " a valid CMS connection could not be established" happens because it can't find the directory to rum CMS.

    Thanks but that didn't help.

Does DIM get a valid CMS connection?

So was the CMS Cluster Directory present?

Here is a good set of troubleshooting steps"

To "turn on" the Content Management System (CMS) for Daz Studio, open the Smart Content tab and click the "blue button" at the bottom to start the connection. If it doesn't start, try restarting Daz Studio or reinstalling Daz Studio and the PostgreSQL CMS via Daz Central or Daz Install Manager (DIM).

    Start the CMS Connection

    1. Open Daz Studio.
    2. Navigate to the Smart Content tab.
    3. Look for a blue button at the bottom of the Smart Content pane and click it to initiate the connection to the CMS.

    Troubleshooting Steps

If the CMS does not start or connect, try these steps:

    • Restart Daz Studio:

Close and reopen Daz Studio to see if the CMS starts automatically.

    • Check the Windows Firewall:

On Windows, ensure that the CMS and its components are not blocked by the firewall.

If none of that helps, you might try reinstalling PostgreSQL CMS which you can dowbload through DIM

When I reinstalled everything a couple of months ago, I could not get Daz Studio to connect to the CMS: I remember the problem being linked to the order in which the CMS and Daz Studio were installed, but I don't remember if I had to install the CMS first or Daz first to fix it.

I finally solved the problem. You were almost but not quite right. My CMS path was correct but I found that the connect path still pointed to the now defunct drive. When I corrected that  CMS started working.
