G9
I have so much trouble with the G9 generation, that I'm not sure it's worth investment.
I never had so many duplicate formulas before G9, the loading time is really much longer than G8 probably because of all the morphs and dupes. It's really very hard to trouble shoot these problems. I admit there are really more realistic skin for some figures, but it's really hard to guess before buying.
I still have an awfull distorsion in the hip thighs area that I'm no able to resolve. Sure it could happen from another vendor, I don't know ! Where can I find help ????
My library is full of undescriptible files : I sincerly hope that Daz/Tafi will make some kind of "writen in stone" instructions for creators from every store.
- Why is there at least 3 folders for "document", "documents", "documentation" ?
- Why the Data folder is full of strange names, with Textures, UV sets, Assets, Resources and Morphs ?
- and there are many others : tutorial, tutorials
All this seems to become a kind of an Augias stables : it lacks an Hercule !
I'm ageing, for sure, I could go back to paper and paintbrushes, or wait for a realible IA for my pictures...
From now on, I will stop to buy G9 products and stay with G8

Duplicate forumlas are two sets of properties with the same name (which is bad in itself) trying to form a link (e.g. from a full cotnroller to head/body morphs or from a morph to joint adjustments). It has nothing to do with the way Genesis 9 is set up compared to other figures, and should be becomiong rarer as Daz Studio now incorporates measures to make name clashes less likely.
More details, most likely it is a badly configure shape that is triggering ana djustment when it shouldn't or not when it should.
Because of user incosistency, this has absolutely nothing to do with a particular figure geenration.
It shouldn't have textues, the others should be in figure-specific sub-folders and contain what they say - the files for morphs, UV sets etc. All versions of Genesis use the same basic architecture and will have the same folder structure so againm, this is not a Genesis 9 "issue".
again, user error and nothing to do with a particular figure.
Hi Richard,
There's one really important thing that you seem to avoid :
DazStudio is essentially a program helping average people to use 3d premade assets. These are NOT "users errors" but content providers errors. and even some Daz PA products are full of duplicates. May I repeat myself, a more robust and clear instructions on how to provide content for Studio should be specifically written.
I honestly think it's much more a quality control check that is lacking from Daz.
I never had so many problems with G3, G8 figures. It's really a pest with G9, I don't know why, but it's a factual observation.
All the best
By "user error" I did mean the users who created the folders with those folder names, not the users who installed the content. I'm sorry if that wasn't as clear, I had intended it to be.
golem841 I understand your frustrations with G9 figures.
However, not all G9 content is bad, is a matter of choice.
Some folks are accostumed with G3, others prefer G8 and others use G8.1.
I found some irritant issues with some Genesis 8 characters with the duplicated formulas, a support ticket is all what it takes to get it fixed.
Because the way Genesis 9 has been developed, I always use one nifty aid called "Insta-Load Genders, Female and Male for Genesis 9 (G9) in Daz Studio by Winterbrose" you can find it at either of these places

I am using G9 because I like it more than the previous generations, I have some Genesis, G2, G3, G8 and G8.1 characters as well.
As long as you have the latest Daz Studio version currently 4.24, there is nothing that can stop you using Genesis 9 characters.
Don't worry, try using what you have.
Drawing by hand is more tedious, I did do that many years ago, a friend of mine did do better than me.
I like Daz Studio, I can have more freedom of expressing my ideas with the available content being sold here in the store and also having some free content here and somewhere else.
The choice is yours, good luck!
Since my DIM disapeared from my new C drive, I'm reinsatlling everithing. I specified a new dim directory on my "user" drive whitch is different. It's much easier to track duplicates. It's awfully time consuming but at least loading figures are taking a bit less time.
I hope that Studio 6 will be, someday, easier to use. One of the features I would like to see is being able to uninstall stuff directly wihtout the DIM manager.
Most content can be installed through Daz Studio, and then it can be uninstalled. Many scipts and some other products are not compatible, however.
That's the manifest files that are missing. They were on the C drive I replaced.
I'm reinstalling every possible things via DIM, I located the Dim manifest dsx on another drive.
Yet another problem !
My content from quite few stores ended to saturate a 4TB drive. I copied the whole content folder to an 8 Tb NVME, of course this new drive have a different letter. The DIM is getting crazy again ....
In the manifest files you can batch edit the path to the new path. It can be done with e.g. Notepad++.
You can directly change the drive letters in Windows. However this only works on case you don't have files still on the old drive. But if you have copied everything and have no applications referring to the old drivers letter this would be much easier.
It may be my relatively poor english, particularly when computer related, or my aging sight. I fin the DIM advanced settings relatively hard to understand, I think I finally managed them/
Do not, please, apologise for poor English. I doubt if many native English speakers here could communicate half as well as you do in any other language. I know I am one who would struggle badly in any other language.
Regards,
Richard
