The PA Festival knocked a pretty big hole in my wallet, so it would have to be a really great product to get me to buy now, except for anniversary bundles and crazy deals of course. (Like ALR for Iray, that came home with me right away!)
This is my second anniversary sale, having started using DS a year ago September. Aside from spending way, way too much money two things stand out in my memory. 1) There were special category sales of PC+ items at 99¢ each: Halloween, Victorian, etc. and 2) There were pages of products on sale at 80% off that changed frequently. I bought a lot of V4 and M4 content at 80% off... (I think I had to buy a new release or some such to get the 80% off.)
When I saw the Medieval category sale, I was expecting it to be like the West Park category and filled with older PC+ items for 79¢. Obviously, that's not what happened. And while it may seem odd to have Genesis 3 characters in that category, it's also rather nice to see those relatively new items at 60% off.
To paraphrase a really old cliché, I expect DAZ is hoping to please some of the people all of the time and all of the people some of the time, and they are well aware they cannot please all of the people all of the time.
Me? I'm just going to sit back and watch the sale unfold, and hope they don't find my weak spot too often!

I appreciate you taking the time to respond Jack, thanks. And all I'm trying to do is provide feedback on the sale.
As I've said, the sale on the $1.99 PC stuff was good, I admit, and I did pick up a few of your horror items that I was lacking but most I already have, so there wasn't much there for me (maybe that'll change in the coming weeks). I think the thing I'm finding most disappointing is the 40% off for Daz Originals, as that is where most of my interest lies at the moment. As a PC+ member ever since I started with Daz I've always had 30% off on Daz Originals as standard - so this sale is basically just 10% off Daz Originals for me, which is a very weak incentive for an impulse buyer like myself.
I've only been here a year but I remember Daz Originals sales where loads and loads of stuff was 60-65% off and I couldn't stop buying things. I guess with all the hype I was seeing on the forums over this sale thats kinda what I imagined we were going to see, hence my disappointment. I know there are some 60% categories floating around at the moment, but its mostly very obscure niche stuff so far and I was hoping for more 'core' items - again hopefully thats going to change as the sale progresses.
All those past sales though and the PA sale just gone do lead me to believe that all of these 40% items are going to be 60% items at some point in the future if I'm just patient enough
.
The PC sale focuses on items, like you say, which aren't normally on sale. DO's are often on sale, so it doesn't make sense to have them also on sale during this promotion, since we don't want to overload on the amount of content that we offer up. That said, we're also not responsible for additional promotions, so it could well be that marketing add in various DO's during the sale at a higher discount.
It would however make our jobs a lot easier to say on day 1: everything in the PC is on sale, here are all the Crazy Deals, Anniversary Bundles and category sales.. see you in a month! But I would imagine a lot of heads would explode.
The fact you're used to seeing such good deals is also a sign of the longer term value of the PC.. you save every month! It's just that also during this month, you get to save on some of the other items we have too.
We do listen to all feedback - and to be honest - this years forum feedback has been surprisingly positive so far. Obviously we would rather every single member be happy, but given the vast numbers different people expect, and shop, differently. You never know, you might see a bundle come down the pipeline which turns it all around for you :)
It's my first PC+Sale, lots of stuff I don't own yet, so it's great, and besides, Jack, your stuff will make really splendid backgrounds, thanks!
I'm quiet happy so far, I didn't spend much in the PA sale and tried to keep my money together for the pc, worked for me! Ok its my first pc as well and my runtime had huge holes to fill. About to take good care of that now ;-)
I've learned to be patient (having to stretch my dollars) and to buy only when sales offer the best pricing (on Vicki and other DAZ Original figures, etc.), which this sale doesn't have. Oh well .... maybe in December?
I guess I'll have to hope Jack's stuff is on sale again next year. Blah. (Budget is 0 until end of month... when all these sales are done. Of course)
Well, This sale is more or less what I expected. Not as great as the PA sale (for me), not the greatest PC sale ever. But by no means a bad sale. It's good, I'm wearing my happy face.
Well, the PC+ sale started late,; so it should run for a couple of weeks in November. And you could use November's budget and coupons then.
Good news!
Any idea why that delayed sale display happens? It's not just the memberships, every now and then an offer comes up in the store with the tiny small print "sale price won't show until checkout". I don't like this — with all the store glitches, it would be too easy to not notice a discount not being applied.
Case in point, I see the membership discount now, but at the beginning of the PC sale, I saw the promo and tried putting it into my cart. Didn't work, I would have paid the full renewal price.
The store's unreliability is actively discouraging me from the sort of snap "buy now!!!1!!" decisions DAZ seems to want us to make.
Haha YES! Some things I find are super easy to pass on because its just not my genre or in my realm of interest. Other things are pretty hard to pass up at the prices I am seeing. And honestly, if there is a day or two with stuff that might be a bit meh for me, I am kind of grateful because I really can't afford to buy it all lol.
I believe it's how some of the discounts work, buy x to get y off - those sort of checks need to be done at the checkout.. the way the discounting works is pretty complex, so I could have it wrong, but thats my best guess.
I'm underwhelmed, so far, despite not being a long-standing DS user so many of the items I don't already own. Lots of buildings/scenery I will never use, all the Halloween-related monster/demons/creatures stuff leaves me stone cold, a few more identical twin sisters for V6/V7 of which I already have enough....Maybe it will pick up; if not my credit card will thank me for the respite.
That's how I feel, too. LOL... I breathe a sigh of relief when I check the store after the daily changeover, and there isn't anything there—not counting PC+ items—that I had to have yesterday! Put some really cool items on my wishlist, though. Hopefully the coffers will have recovered by the time I actually need those things...
And I did a pretty good job of resisting the PC+ items, too, until the MFD for G3F showed up yesterday and the Morphing Mask today. I suspect, as DarkSpartan mentioned elsewhere, the rest of the MFD related items will trickle in daily... Can I resist?
(me)
LOL! Yes I picked up the dress as well. I have a very good idea of where I want to go with my art so that does make it a bit easier to resist certain categories. and I have been able to pic kup some of my wishlisted items (brought my wishlist down to under 500 lolol). It is a bit more difficult to walk away from a .79 item but I am definitely trying ot pace myself. .
I'm hoping we get a day or two with a extra bit of discount off of the newer 2.99 to 4.99 ranged pc+ items. That would clear out an insane amount of my wishlist. Not the literally tagged 'new' ones; just the item that started to release in trhe higher bracket.
I'd say I dodged a bullet with no MFD related PC+ item today, except I'm a sucker for characters by FWSA since I picked up Derek HD when he was released. Seriously, how can one resist such a beautiful character for $3, even if it is for G3F?
At least I don't need anything Sci-Fi... lol
Ok, I'm kinda seeing the worth of this sale now. I guess its just best to think of it as a purely PC+ items sale and ignore the other 40% stuff going on. My genre (Sci-Fi) has just appeared and I can see where they're going with the evolution of the sale... I guess I must already have most of the PC+ sci-fi stuff I want though, cos there's only 1 thing I'm interested in there but thats better than nothing. I do appreciate the marketing people focusing on my genre though (although I'm sure it wasn't specifically for me
).
Gives me time to save up for the next Daz Originals sale I guess.
It's the PC anniversary, so the 40% is just an added bonus. :)
thanks for calling this out. I would have missed it if u wouldnt have called it out. Im not in the market for clothes, so i dont really pay attention to the releases. but this is ine utem i have been waiting for. will make for a great donor rig.
Also remember that the 40% stacks with other discounts, so if a DO item goes 50% off, we get a total of 70% off, rather than the usual 65%, which means it is the same as the item appearing in fast grab.
There are a lot of cool looking (but old) items in the Sci-Fi sale, but I'm curious if they can be converted for Iray.
If a model only comes as a .cr2 file, would it have surfaces that can be edited to use Iray?
I do it all the time. The object will have a surfaces tab - slap the good old IRay Uber Shader on all of them and Bob's Your Uncle. Then you can tweak to get things the way you want or just replace any surfaces that don't come up to scratch with, perhaos, something from one of the many general purpose iRay Shader packs in the store.
Yippeeee! I'm so POSITIVE these days! :)
My experience has been that you can convert just about anything to Iray. The big thing to look for is the resolution -- if old stuff has important weird texture maps that are low resolution, that doesn't tend to translate well (because it looks ugly and pixellated).
Stuff that's simple 'this bit is metal, this bit is glass' is a lot more workable.
How do you work that out? If I put a bunch of the 40% DO items in my cart they just remain as 40%. Can't see how you'd get it up to 70%, unless I'm missing something...
Not a problem, just apply the Iray Uber Base converter as normal and start tweaking until it looks right.
What might be a problem is that some older items might not have their surfaces split up as logically as they mostly are these days. E.g. usually a sword prop will have at least metal blade and hilt materials, and a non-metal handgrip material. This makes it relatively easy to set up different Iray dial tweaks for the different types of material. Many old props, though, have their entire mesh set up as one material. It's still possible to convert these to Iray, but it gets complicated.
I am refering to the other sales that take place throughout the PC+ sale. For example the hair category sale, which was 50% off I think (or was it 60%), put any DO in the cart from that list and the discount is 70%. I did not mean all DO's are 70% off throughout the PC+ sale, just the ones on some sort of additional discount. Quite a few of the DOs will come up at some point in the month.
Hmmm did not know that. Thanks for the heads-up
He means that if an item is on sale for some other reason - say it's by one of today's featured artists - and it's also a DO, the discounts combine.
Another example is how it combines with the (also apparently modest) 40% discount on new releases.
Normally, I don't buy new releases. I stick them in my wishlist and wait for a 50% off sale. For a Daz Original, the discount I'd get for waiting would be 50% combined with the default 30% - making 65% in total. But thanks to the PC+ sale, the discount I can get today is 40% & 40% - making 64% in total. The Arabella bundles and almost everything in them is covered by this (though I'd still wait for a better deal on the bundles themselves if I wanted them).
