aargh not sure i will explain this properly - i came across a post somewhere that mentioned you can set how many cores iray uses so you can still use your computer while it's rendering...I THINK that was what it meant?
I right clicked on DAZ Studio in the task manager, clicked set affinity, and it showed 7 cores.....I'm just wondering how many I should set it to use? Is there an optimal number? Would setting it to 3 cores mean I can still browse while iray is rendering? Is 4 a good choice?
I have no idea - this is all new to me. I didn't even KNOW you could do this.
Tips? Suggestions?

If you are using CPU rendering, leaving even just 1 core unchecked will let you do stuff on your computer. I usually leave 2 unchecked while working, just so I can use the web browser, a couple of other applications, and let windows do its routine stuff in the background. Leaving 2 unchecked makes normal web browsing, emailing and such seem like you are not even rendering in the background. You can even watch a movie, youtube or downloaded.
As for GPU rendering... I'm not too familiar with that... I don't think there is a way to limit GPU usage, but others will correct me if I'm wrong.
Oh, and here's what I do: I leave Task Manager open, so I can easily switch the cores on and off. When I leave the computer for more than 10 minutes, I turn everything back on. It's going to save a few seconds of rendering time. :) When I get back, I uncheck two random cores again, so I can work normally.
Ati2, THANK YOU!
It's all new to me, I never had any idea you could even do it. LOL.
I don't use affinity. I simply set DAZ Studio's priority to "below normal" or "low". You can use your computer for other things, and if you leave your computer, DAZ Studio will continue to use all available resources. No need to keep tabs on what affinity settings you have set.
