Looking to do something like this with a butterfly prop.

    It looks like a bit of emission on the butterfly wings and some bloom enabled. Will probably require a dark background like in your image.

    That's the look. My scene will be a nighttime one. Will I be able to see the glow?

    You should.

    I added a little emission to the wings, and added bloom in render settings. And added black as background. You will have to do a little trial and error to find what suits you. Even with a less black it should be vissible.
