Render To PNG Transparent Background Files

I render all my Daz Studio outputs to transparent png files. During post processing, when I add a background with a lighter colour than the adjacent colour of the png file, a thin (perhaps 1 or 2 pixels) edge can be seen around the subject in the png file, a typical example would the edge of a white characters face with a light coloured background, between these you would notice a dark 1 or 2 pixel line. See the attached file as an example, look at the edge of the characters face against the added background.

While this primarily would only be seen in an image editer viewed at 100%, it is noticeable to my eye, so I wondered if there are any settings in the Daz Studio Render options to expand or contract the edges of the output file? I am guessing the answer is no, but if anyone knows otherwise, I would be grateful to hear the solution. Thanks.

The Pixel Filter (in the Redner Settings Edtor tab, under Filtering, may play a part). You could also try doing a second render with a solid backdrop closer in colour to the backdrop you want and use that as the image with the mask from the PNG (copy the channel, or just make a clippiing group the with-background image tied to the one with alpha).

  • Richard, I tried adjusting the Pixel Filter settings, the default was 1.50, so I changed it first to 0.00, and then 3.00 but didn't really see much difference on the outpile files. You second suggestion sounds a bit technical (for me!!), but also, I don't plan in advance what the backdrop colour will be as I like to just try things as I go along so the backdrop could be anything for colour / brightness, etc. Overall, I think the rendered png files I get are very good, so am not majorly concerned about this 'problem', but will try looking at more of the Render setting options as its all part of the learning process anyway.

    Thanks for your help.
