Is the AMD Ryzen 9 9950X a good CPU for DAZ Studio (Iray Rendering)?

Hi everyone,

I'm planning to upgrade my PC mainly for DAZ Studio work using Iray (GPU rendering only, no CPU rendering).
I know that DAZ Studio relies heavily on GPU for rendering, but I also want a smooth experience in the viewport, scene browsing, loading morphs, and simulation (cloth, hair, etc.).

I'm considering the AMD Ryzen 9 9950X and wondering:

  • Is it a good choice for DAZ Studio in terms of viewport responsiveness?

  • Does its single-core performance help with scene interaction and simulations?

I think it's a waste of money, viewport/scene depends on the number of characters, clothes, morphs, environment, a fast SSD gen 5 gives you more, and CPU? maybe something with high core clock speed.

Upgrading my CPU all but eliminated viewport lag. I can have many people in my scene, and sliders move realtime now, instead of pausing for many seconds when I grabbed a slider. I think the more important thing as far as CPU goes in DS, is single core speed. I didn't notice a difference when I went from 4 to 8 core at all, I think that is because they were very close in single core speed. When I went to a 12 core with much faster single core speed, that is what did it for me. I haven't bothered with the beta DS yet, so not sure if it still holds true in that DS version.

So let me get this straight. CPU is used for viewport and scene creation. GPU is only used when rendering a scene to a 2D image?

    I have a AMD 3700X 8 core, 16 thread, 32 gbs of DDR4 and Nvidia RTX 2060 Super with 8gb VRAM.
