Genesis 8 to 9 animation converting

Hi,

I have a lot of animations (not only poses) made for genesis 8 and want to use for genesis 9.
There are plugin.script for poses but not found any doing animation convertion.

Is there a solution to convert the animations, aniblocks or even ;bhv via another product ?

thank you

Olivier

  • Bone minion from river soft will transfer the animated key frames from 8 to 9. I've used it and it works just fine.

    Yes! Bone Minion!!!

I have some tips for you:

When we apply a Bone Minion, by default it reads everything we do to it to the figure it's attached to, which will record the animation to the timeline, whether it's an aniBlock or whatever.

So set the timeline (using the timeline hamburger menu on the right side) to "Play All Frames" so it doesn't skip over any.

Also, if you want to work a bit before converting, select the Bone Minion and, in the Properties plane, uncheck Auto so that it's not constantly writing keyframes/poses. Then simply turn it back on and hit play when you're ready to do the conversion.

In my experience, Bone Minion does a Wonderful job! Of course, no joint pose conversion can be absolute correct as the rigs are set to mesh somewhat differently, but Bone Minion has given excellent results for me time and time again! Big Fan!

I'm in the same situation, but mine are all for Genesis 3. So after trying the Genesis 3 Pose to Genesis 9 Bone Minion, I went back and bought the whole Genesis 3 Pose Bone Minion Bundle, so that I have a Bone Minion for Genesis 3 poses for Genesis 1, 2, 8 and 8.1 as well. Love it! There's a bundle like that for Genesis 8 poses too, if you're interested.

This is a bit of a necro but i can't get Bone minion to work with transfering animations from g8 to g9. Even tried heavy bone minion but it dosen't work, keys do show up in the timeline but the animation looks weird and characters keep jumping up and down from the floor instead of sticking to it as they should as per g8 animation. I have set up everything correctly, turned off limits, disabled looping, and turned on play all frames in the timeling but it just won't work properly. I don't get how you guys managed to make it work.

Is it possible to save the converted animation afterwards so that I don’t need to rely on the "Bone minion" anymore?

Hi use the free script from Rendo
I use it all the time

You can save you G9 animations as animated pose files (.duf), after conversion .

@wolf359 Thank you very much for sharing and recommending the script!
I had already tested it before, but when converting animations from Genesis 8 to Genesis 9, I ran into an issue.

The animations do get converted and look fine at first glance, but when compared closely, they are not actually converted correctly.

When I import my animation, it behaves as if Limits and Locks are enabled, even though I have them turned off. On Genesis 8, with Limits and Locks disabled, the animation works correctly. But if I enable them, the arms no longer stay in place and appear more spread out.

After converting this same animation to Genesis 9 using the script, it always behaves as if Limits and Locks are enabled, even when they are off. No matter what I tried, I couldn’t fix this.

Have you ever come across this issue, or do you know of a workaround?

Yes, after loading the animation to Bone Minion on G9, play the timeline with Bone Minion selected as well as the option of Play All Frames checked . The pose on each keyframe will be transferred from Minion to G9.

Then select G9 to save a Pose Preset with animated range. The Preset can be re-used on G9 without using Bone Minion anymore

In my exp. the transferred animation on G9 is identical to G8's. Only the expression / facs animation cannot be transferred ~~  (edit: because Bone Minion doesn't support converting expression / facs.)
