Khory's iRay Sprites

KA1KA1 Posts: 1,012

Working on a scene last night I spent 4 hours trying to get either fireflies, wisps, sprites or anything of that nature in my scene, 4 hours without any results I was happy with. Woke up this morning and opened the Daz store to iRay sprites.... Thank you from the bottom of my heart for creating this product @Khory

Isn't it great when something you realize you wish you had suddenly pops up like that? This thing looked very useful so it went into my shopping cart too today.

I've wanted to do something like this for ages. I just never felt it was really viable with 3DL. When I started working on it I thought I had a pretty solid idea in my head for how they would work. Man was I wrong. I fiddled with it all for weeks. And there were things I added and then removed because they were just to variable. One example is using bloom with them. Sometimes it did really groovy things and sometimes it seemed to do just nothing. But something to consider when you play with them. I really hope you enjoy them!

Thanks for showing a render SassyWench! It is wonderful how well the sprites match her outfit. I'm pretty thrilled you like this so much. It was one of those projects that by the time I finished it I wasn't sure if I hadn't just totaly missed my mark.

BTW I did actually work on fire flies for a while for this set. But what I ended up realizing was that the most logical solution was little low polly balls lit emissive because you can't see anything anything about them when you shrink them down to firefly size. So if you want a firefly (or a hundred) create a very low poly sphere that is about an inch, apply the ubershader to it then copy past one of the yellow star materials to it (load the sprite, select the star in the surface tab and then copy. Then select the sphere in the surface tab and past) then shrink it down to 25%. If your going to want a slew of them I'd select the sphere and then go to create and select new node instances. Pick a number of instances (copies) you want and watch them turn up. They will all need to be selected and moved around individually to spread them out by the way.  I'd suggest that if you want say 50 that you do 9 instances and then save that group as a scene subset after you space them out. Then you can just pop in more of those to fill the scene. You may have to move a few around but in the long run it should be less work for you.

Such a lovely little prop and I can see myself getting lots of uses out of it.

    Just a quick test render
