AEON SOUL - Discuss - Remarkable style, somewhat confusing products

davesodaveso Posts: 7,768

I've been a fan of Aeon Soul for a very long time, at RDNA, Rendo, and here at DAZ. Their work has always been out of this world, or of a different time. Unique to the Poserverse and now to DAZ Studio. Their products are high quality. The only thing I have to say though, is their great work does come at a price. For sure not the most inexpensive on the block, but you pay for what you get.

The only other thing I can say, somewhat negative, is that the way their products overlap can be somewhat confusing. What am I really getting if I buy this, and then what are these add ons, and is this with this product or from another. I think their explanations are getting more clear through time, but wow, there is so much the clothes, the variations, the textures, the skins, overlays, geoshells, etc etc..and it seems most all work together some way or another.  I've been trying to put together a cart today, and could probably spend hundreds of dollars on their stuff, without a problem. All of their post-apocalyptic stuff is right up my alley, that's for sure. It's beautiful.

Here is one example of why I get so confused. I suppose you don;t need all these for this product, but check the requirements. Futuristic Military Styles for Zero One Clothing Sets | Daz 3D

And then there is Alice. It was one of the cool things back in time when each version of this unique character came about. I have them all somewhere on a hard drive. Their new character, appears to be an iteration of Alice, but not sure if she's classified that way or not, and I have not seen her released anywhere. She's like a trademark pretty much of Aeon Soul.

Anyway, much love to them and hope they will contune their product line for a long time.

Alice is without a doubt a beautiful and iconic character that I'd love to have in the latest iteration. Alas it seems as if it will never be so. I agree that their "marketing" as such leaves a little to be desired. It certainly can't be claimed that they fail to provide enough example images or large enough images to get a good idea of the offerings, but I think bundles would be nice.

I have to agree with the OP regarding their products. The amount of quality work and attention to detail put into their products is amazing. They were among the first products I bought when I started DAZ and only recently did I accidentally figure out how some of their clothing sets actually work. The biggest obstacle I've found in being able to fully utilize their products as designed is the confusing instructions. Now that I have it figured out, I'm enjoying their truly amazing work.

As far as purchasing goes, I agree it can be a bit challenging to understand the distinctions between some of their earlier sets.

The first product of theirs I purchased is the Whymsy set. I would love to see them do a reinterpretation of it, updated to G9.

This is an older summary of some the sets https://www.daz3d.com/forums/discussion/586416/the-verse-universe-official-guide#latest but I am not sure if you saw this.

Thanks for the additional information.  It pretty much talks about the "Verse" series, just a small subset of what they've produced; even so this additonal information is welcome.

I too started my AS collecting way back at RDNA. At one point I asked if the latest Alice chracter (G3? G8? at that time) could please, Please, PLEASE be released and the answer was that there was no intent to release a new version, in part, based upon a lot of super negative comments and reviews on the character in the past. WHAT????  Alice, is, and always has been super-beautiful and so iconic! <sigh>

I do agree with the OP that Aeon Soul is a cut above most and their stuff is unique and useful, so I don't really mind paying a premium for their premium content.  I'm thankful for what we do have from them, even while lamenting what I'd like to have from them.

But it's right in the production's description:

you only need to own one to enjoy these styles

and checking (just) the names (!) of the listed "required" products should tell you, that the pose sets include the clothing set (in a lesser form). As the style set is just that and doesn't come with the clothing it can only be useful when one owns at least one of those required products, but the shop can't display them in a way that says only ONE is required. Not a fault of Aeon Soul, but a basic problem of the shop software wink

Love Aeon Soul, Aery Soul, AlfaSeed, & whatever their next incarnation is called. I was able to get lots of their Aery Soul gear before it was discontinued and all of their AlfaSeed gear because RDNA forewarned us of the impending defunction.

They are a treasure to this community. They are worth every cent. They deserve a statue in the centre of Daztopia.

Also, they overwhelm me with choices and options. The best complaint.

I think in that one it's not so much that all the items are required but rather any one of them as they all have zero one clothing as part of them

I love Aeon Souls products, which clearly stand out from the crowd with their high quality and distinctive, sophisticated style. I have been a loyal customer of theirs for a long time. At the moment their focus is more on contemporary clothing, but I'm hoping they'll revisit their iconic sci-fi fantasy look at some point. The system of the current ranges is just so well thought out and offers so many variations that can be used by all models in a range.

I would also love to have Alice; she's one of my favourite characters. But I totally understand that Aeon Soul are not giving away their signature figure.

I think the presentation is confusing too. It does seem like a lot of overlap. For customers considering those products I think they are been better presented a series of dress and undress shots from a film reel in a bedroom, bathroom, or clothing store changing room so we can understand exactly what the pose and the clothing is.

What makes it confusing is that sometimes the texture packs aren't updated to include all of the requirements. But like a few others have mentioned, you only need one of those products in order to use them. And the promos pretty much emphasize that all their texture packs and products can be easily kitbashed together.

I just find it amusing that their AS guy is basically an Alice version of Arnold Schwarzenegger ("AS" get it, lol) but, like Alice, he's changing appearance slightly with each new promo he's featured in.

The styles are basically texturesets which match multiple outfits. That part wasn't too confusing to me. The part I found really tricky, was, when they added morphs to these styles as well. I didn't see that in the most recent outfits though, even if I do hope they will release some morphs packs again for some of them. Like, they seem to have abandoned the open/undress morphs after the Metro Style Outfit. Even the Shorts and Underwear collections surprisingly didn't have them.

Yes, I find the absence of morphs with the new clothing sets to be very disappointing. Frankly, from my point of view it reduces the value of the new clothing sets compared to the earlier ones, and doesn't really distinguish them from other products on the market. The prices might be comparable, but the content is reduced.

I really like some of the early Aery Soul stuff. When I returned to DS in 2019 I made sure to dig out my V3 freebies that I'd kept from pre-2007 knowing that I would eventually re-use them. The Elvenstrapped bikini was one, and I was so pleased to eventually get it to fit to my favourite V3 based character (Glamorous Vickie) as shown below:

It took years before I could fit the clothing to this character because of the limitations to Poser's fitting methods, but I remembered it and waited until I had the tools. Definitely worth it.

I managed to miss Keilo and Yaara; (both contain NSFW character images hideable in the usual Renderosity way, so please don't look at these 'Unavailable' sales pages if you may be offended) as V3 characters on sale, something which still really disappoints me. Now that I've created a Tri-Ax V3, it would be possible to make these characters fit into many, many more clothes than possible when they were 'current' characters.

    Regards,

    Richard

I think this version of Alice is one of the most beautiful in Poser-verse.

Here is my take with her!

First of all, thanks so much for the wonderful comments, they mean a lot to us and really made us smile with pride :).

For those who mention our previous iterations... it's been a long time, hasn't it?
We re-started as Aeon Soul (and Aeon Soul is going to stick ;)) here on Daz in April 2015, it's been 10 years already, but yeah, our first product was released in Dec 2001, so this is only part of the story :).

    Back to OP...
    I agree,
sometimes it's a little confusing because we love to create all these options (or alternatives) as well as add-on textures that match other sets and themes for mixability.
We create series (Verse, City Vibes, Street Verve, Urban Noise, Metro Style)
as well as themes (for example, Graffiti, Punked and Cyberpunk that span multiple clothing sets)
as well as mini-worlds like our Post-Apocalyptic one that includes Skin Effects: geoshells, a main Outfit as well as matching and add-on textures for other clothing sets (and more stuff to come).
It's a lot of connected stuff and it's not always easy to figure out.

As someone pointed it out, we have gotten better at showing this.

When we started this trend with Verse, we thought we could just explain it in the store page and link products with one another, but there are some limitations like no bold text, no links even to daz3d threads, etc and often changes are made to the original formatting of the page that make it less clear.

So we started explaining everything in our promo images and hopefully that helps.
We have a few official threads in the forum (see attached pic) that explain the add-ons situation, but, again, these cannot be linked from the product pages, so unless you have the dazdeals browser plugin and see them linked, you just don't know they exist: https://www.daz3d.com/forums/discussion/585351/the-zero-one-world-official-guide-commercial

Honestly, we use these ourselves as a reference as there's so many options in our sets it's easy to forget something, this is super-useful for us: https://www.daz3d.com/forums/discussion/707171/list-clothing-sets-with-alternative-dirt-options

As for the example linked, all compatible products need to be listed under required in order for the add-on to appear as an add-on in the compatible product page. You cannot have it any other way. Ideally there should be a "compatible with" option for these cases, but there isn't.

We are trying to be more present out here.
Recently we launched our own website: https://aeonsoul.com/, it's still not perfect, but it has a blog where we go in-depth about products (I’ve finishes up writing the post for all the post-apocalyptic / wasteland products we released as I was rendering our next promo this morning: https://aeonsoul.com/home/blog/).
We plan to add some webpages for the themes and series to make it easy for people to understand what's what.
If anyone has suggestions about this, we'd love to hear them!
Again, these cannot be linked from the store, but if people look for Aeon Soul info, it will be out there, so there's that.

We also revived our deviantart account, so we can be reached there too. Our Artstation is current and it's our art-gallery / portfolio and our instagram is current and we also post sneak peeks and previews there.
Our Newsletter always feature some exclusive sneak peek of the next product and from the next newsletter we'll include exclusive freebies (we'll be posting more about this in the next couple of weeks).
There’s a lot going on and we’re happy to implement improvements and feedbacks if people have any to share. We like to know what people enjoy the most or the list about what we do or how we present it.

    Ah, Alice :)
We do not have plans to release Alice herself. At this point she’s become an ongoing project, kind of a personal artistic quest.
We do have other character-focused projects though.
We have been working on our skin on and off for a while and that would come with a character that while not Alice, will likely draw from her, especially bodyshape-wise. After all, she’s our type :)!

    Thanks for reading (or skimming)

Wow! Thanks for all the info, Aeon Soul! Your products were some of the first I bought when I started with Daz, and they're still in heavy rotation in my renders. I love the versatility of every piece and how everything can be mixed and matched. I can use your stuff for fantasy, sci-fi, contemporary, or anything I want. It's all such high quality that I can even use things made for G2 or G3 on my G9s. I'm never disappointed by a purchase of your exquisite work. About the only thing I wish for is more stuff made specifically for males, since most of my characters are male. But I'm not afraid to use 'female' clothing for them, so it's not really an issue. I've bought most of your outfits by now, so I can always find something to use. laugh

Thanks for letting us know about your site and newsletter! I signed up and look forward to seeing what you're working on. Keep up the great work!

While my collection only started with what I found at DAZ3d from 2016 on, I have bought almost every item I can afford or use, but only two clothing products specifically for males seem to have been offered. I really wish we could have a few more products for males, especially sci-fi, mix and match, like are available for the ladies. G9 is able to share, but the other generations are a bit more iffy but women's clothing still has a 'look' that is slightly off on a guy.

Before this thread gets lost to time, I thought I should pop in give my support for Aeon Soul and their products. As many have noted, I too was a bit confused by some of their products. But in all fairness, it was due to my not taking the time to learn about them (i.e. actually read the descriptions - Zero One was the one that I initially didn't understand). Once they came out with a Zero One product I really wanted, then I actually read the provided information and all was good. I think that we (DAZ customers) are so used to product that are very simple, for example that main product and a simple add on texture set, that we get lazy and don't read the descriptions like we should.

Now with that out of the way, I'm really glad that they design their products the way they do. Being able to mix and match a wide range of products is simply amazing. As you add products, you add simple and fun kit bashing options that other vendors typically don't offer. Like others, I've been using their stuff since back in the V3 days. Their products have always had something .... ummmm .... just really unique and inspiring. I thing that's what I like most about their fantastic products, they are inspiring!!! There are many things that I have purchased because I liked them from other vendors only to feel uninspired, primarily due to the quality and detail compared to Aeon Soul. There are a few other vendors that I consider at the same level, but there are a LOT that I find really uninspiring.

The attention to detail in the textures and models are where I think Aeon Soul really shines. The surface wear on leather items, the creases and folds, and the additional grunge/dirt/damage options are so important for making my renders NOT scream "Warning Warning - this image was created by a hobby 3D artist". I just recently realized that the inspiration provided by products I purchase is one of the most important things, and their products do that. They even inspire me to create images in genres that I don't normally do so I can use their products!!!

Thanks daveso for starting this thread, and Thanks to Aeon Soul for over 20 years of wonderful 3D content and inspiration!!

Lots of long reads in this thread!

I'm not really a user of Aeon Soul products myself - there aren't many that fit the themes of my renders - but I certainly appreciate the thought and care that goes into their design as products. It's a great approach to asset creation.

I forgot to mention on other thing that I absolutely love in their offerings since the release of Genesis 9. They always include versions for G9 and G8F/G8.1F. I use G9 quite a bit, but I don't have nearly as many things for G9 as for G8F, so it often make more sense to just use G8F. Plus I'm not ready to abandon my favorite G8F characters. So thank you Aeon Soul for continuing to support G8F.

I don't know if Aeon Soul will come back and read this, but you are truly amazing!  You create from the heart.  Alice was like your child and for some to critique her would be devasting.

I say you create from the heart, the outfits you made for V4 were so different from what you create now.  I love the surreal, steampunk, funky type of clothes.

Ava Adore, Dance Emotion, Charmed Mist, Cresent Moon, White Rose, Wildly, Young Soul Lemonade...to name a few.  I still needed to purchase more or your products when you closed your store.  I was so sad!

I know those looks aren't in your heart anymore, but I sure wish they were :)

You are a creative genious and very mysterious.  I know first-hand that you are very generous and very kind soul.  I have spoken to you several times at Deviant Art!

I don't use G9 because I don't want to upgrade my Daz Studio.  I still use G2F, G3F and G8F.  I use a lot of Poser products in Daz Studio.  I don't know if the version to be able to use G9 would be able to do the things an older version does.

Please know that you work and creative genious is so very loved!!

most of my criticism of Alice stemmed from misinformation that she was based on their daughter

A|S came out and said there is no daughter and this was a fallacy created by others and they were unsure where it came from

I have said I also don't care for the character in a couple of threads started by others on the topic but that is just personal taste,

I have said that of many characters, no big deal, but this one I was attacked by well meaning people for insulting this non-existant daughter surprise

it was just wild and not coming from A|S

It did stop me from giving opinions on ANY characters by anyone though blush
