AMD 8350 or 8370

I am curious to know if anyone is using an amd 8350 or 8370 in their current rendering rig.

I'm using the Fx-8350 in an all AMD rig.

    My GPU is the R9-270x

  • How is that running for you?

It stays usable even under heavy load.I can render in iray, watch youtube videos and browse the forums all at the same time with no discernable difference in performance.I left mine at the stock speed.Overclocking just isn't worth the meager amounts of speed you get compared to the stability, heat, and other issues overclocking can cause.

  • Do you have it on air or water cooled?

Air,,,I'm using one of those inexpensive, large aluminum+copper heat sinks with the fan attached , It's a cooler master 212.It's worked very well so far, no issues at all with heat. The stock cooler I didn't like,,it let the temps get a bit to high so I had to replace it.

That sounds like what is supposed to be in my machine...but haven't gotten around to getting it yet.

  • I have a Thermaltake Frio in mine. Though I currently have the 8150 and am looking to upgrade.

  • HI John, I'm using the AMD 8350 FX in a Gigabyte motherboard.  At the moment, I'm only running on 16 GB of memory, but have room to upgrade to more.  I haven't needed more yet.  I have a water cooled system and a R7 260X graphics card. While I only have one graphics card now, I did get a motherboard that allots slots for a dual graphics system in case I think I need to upgrade my system in the future for the gamers in the family.  I think it works rather well.  I, also, kept mine at stock speed.  I haven't run into any really long term renders with the exception my use of certain hairstyles and that is mostly a product problem and not a processor problem, I think.  But, I have been able to do anything I want why running renders (watch movies, youtube, games and other programs) and haven't noticed any extra long renders.  This processor is a beast in efficiency and I love the water cooled system.  Very, very quiet!!! My internal temp, also, never seems to fluctuate or get hot.  I love it.  My husband wasn't sure if it was worth the extra expense, but he now says that he will get a water cooled fan next time he has to replace his as he has been through 4 fans already on his system which is running and Intel I7.  I can really hear the difference when his system is chugging away at a render (he uses Blender) versus my system.  His system always sounds like it is gasping for air while mine is just trotting along like a trooper.  I definitely couldn't watch a movie on his system and be able to hear everything.

    Hope this helps.

  • That does help a lot, thank you.

  • Yep, no problems with my 8350 on a Gigabyte mobo, 32 gig of RAM and an ASUS 780 ti for Iray with an older EVGA GTX 470 for the display.

  • I have 32 Gigs on an MSI 990FX Board with an EVGA GTX 780 I an thinking of adding a second 780 to my set up.

  • I ordered a used ASUS 780 ti to match mine since it was something I could afford on ebay. Barely used with all the originally packaging, even the anti-static bag. Should arrive next week.

  • The Ti Varient was just out of my reache price wise.

  • My first used 780 ti will be around $597 when it's paid off. The used one that's arriving today is paid already including shipping $320.

  • I got a really nice Refurb 780 for around 180.00

Got a 212 Evo here, myself.  A PITA to install, but it's keeping my shiny new CPU nicely below the redline.  I'm tempted to mount a second fan on the heatsink for a push-pull configuration, although the whole thing is squatting awfully close to the memory slots as-is.
