New 5090 GPU with latest drivers not rendering Iray
Hi!
I've just installed a new 5090 GPU and unticked CPU for render so only the 5090 is ticked to force it to use the GPU, but then nothing renders in Iray even in the viewport and aux viewport, items all turn grey. Both Daz and the Nvidia drivers are the latest - 576.52 May 19 2025. I read that 5090 doesn't support PhysX but that Daz doesn't use it anyway? I get the error message in the log to install the latest Nvidia driver:
\src\pluginsource\DzIrayRender\dzneuraymgr.cpp(373): Iray [ERROR] - IRAY:RENDER :: 1.0 IRAY rend error: Cannot render: found no usable devices. Please update your NVIDIA driver (www.nvidia.com) to at least 537.13, or enable CPU rendering.
The new GPU seems to be working fine for Unreal Engine - GPU usage went up to 51% but in Daz it stays at 0%.
Any ideas please? I changed all my Daz and Nvidia settings to match those shown in this optimisation video but still the same result.
Thanks!

Which version of DS are you using? 50xx cards don't work with the versions of Iray in 4.x, only with the DS2025 alpha.
Hi Leana!
I'm using 4.24, so it looks like I have to install DS2025 alpha.... (now I know it exists :-) ). Thanks very much for your help!
Best Regards
James
Hi Leana!
Do you know where I can download DS2025 alpha? I can see references to version 6.25 or alpha in the Forums but not in the Daz store or help section and it does not show as available to download in my DAZ Install Manager?
Thanks!
You can only download it with DIM.
Open Install Manager and log in with your Daz account.
Click the “Download Filters” button on the “Ready to Download” tab.
Scroll down to the “Release Channel Tags” section and make sure the “Public Build” box is checked. If it isn’t, click it to enable the option. Then hit “Accept”.
Type “Daz Studio 2025” into the filter field.
Download and install.
Thanks Leana! I can see it now.
I installed today my RTX5090 and stumbled over the same problem.
So DAZ didn't manage to create a release version which supports the 5090 within five months (5090 was released end of January)? Not even a beta version?
Oh boy ...
Hope that I don't have to live with the alpha version untill the 6090 comes out.
nVidia released a version of iray that supported 50x0 cards and could be integrated into DS 4.x.x.x, but it proved to be buggy (I don't have the details) and could not be released. The next version of Iray cannot be integrated into DS 4.x.x.x. There is nothing here about what Daz cannot manage - this is the way the nVidia supplied modules work.
I think I recall the similar thing happening when the 40-series came out as well. It's the risk you take for purchasing bleeding edge technology and using freemium software.
It's likely that 2025 will be general stable release sooner than later.
It is not fully identical.
When 40-series came out, it required a new version of Iray, which was implemented after some time in DS 4.x
With the 50-series NVidia came with a new Iray version, but NVidia soon after found out it had issues and updated it, but the updated version is not compatible with DS 4.x, and therefor Daz released Daz 2025 (DS 6.x?), probanly sooner than they had planned.
Not actually sooner than planned, apparently, though I don't know if they intended to go public with an alpha build. Edited to add - yes, they did.
If you're asking if the 50xx series will ever be supported by Version 4 of studio, the answer to that is pretty much no.
As the 4.24.03 release thread says, under Known issues:
"Recent Iray/MDL SDKs provide support for 50 series GPUs, but are not compatible with the architecture of Daz Studio 4.x"
