How much do you rely on your custom DAZ environment?
I recently gave DAZ Studio 2025 a try. At first glance, it looks very similar to DAZ 4—but then reality hits: around 99% of my DAZ 4 scripts just don’t work anymore.
Over the years, I’ve built a workflow that heavily depends on scripts. I used them to set camera focus, create cameras with specific parameters, generate and edit lights, navigate to my most-used content folders using a script, copy and paste scene subsets from other scenes via script, check those scenes for specific content, clear poses and object positions with a click, launch fast dForce simulations, create morphs, and position objects using keyboard input. I even set the render file name with a script. And that’s not even the full list. I don't even remember everything.
Now, working in DAZ 2025 without all that, I feel helpless. It's like I need to learn how to walk all over again. Does someone feel the same way?

I think you get bonus points if there's nothing you're doing with the new version that you couldn't do with the old version.
...I'm also very dependent on s scripts and plugins. I'm content to wait for the full General Release .
Yes, but one day my RTX 4090 will become outdated, and I’ll need to replace it with a 6090 or whatever comes next. I'm not at all sure that DAZ 4 will support it.
Take no thought for tomorrow. Tomorrow will take thought for itself.
I'm not generally in the habit of customizing things very much, so I use DS more or less stock.
...but be prepared for the storm by building upon solid rock.
Are these mostly commercial scripts or personal tools?

I'm sure I would feel that way if I had tried to move up to 2025... but I long ago learned my lesson of never upgrading to a new version of DS until months have passed and many others have already done the work to discover all the new rocks, bumps, and potholes of ommissions that need to be fixxed. I still remember the frustation of picking up DAZ Studio 4 back as soon as it launched and then spending over a year waiting for some of the products that I had used on 3 to be added to 4... including a few features that were introduced right at the end of 3 by DAZ itself like the Shape Mixer... only to find that many were never brought over to the new system despite many promises that they would. As it is, I see very little in what's been released in 2025 that I can't already do just fine already,
Both. I use a mix of commercial scripts and plugins, as well as my own tools. I only sell a small portion of what I use—just the ones I’ve managed to polish enough for commercial release.
DAZ Studio 2025 is an alpha version, which pretty much tells you to be happy about, what's already working.
Usually, you get to test beta version, that are known to be buggy. Do not rely on alphas. (that might come out wrong)
They are for testing only.
Keep your general release.
It’s an alpha; it had already been announced that scripts wouldn’t work. It hadn’t been announced that shader creation with 3Delight would be discontinued, but the reasons for not supporting it are understandable. Keep in mind your scripts are probably between 5 and 10 years old—if they were purchased more than two years ago, consider that you’ve gotten good use out of them, and think they might still have around two more years of life while DS2025 leaves alpha and someone decides to renew or remake these functionalities for that version. This alpha is only mandatory for those who only have an RTX 50XX, and that’s the only reason we’re seeing it right now—the rest of us can assume it doesn’t exist, while still being aware of possible changes that may come.”
As someone with Windows 10 & 11 and Apple OS computers, I have DAZ 2025/6 downloaded to test and I am grateful to see Filament available on both. Yes, I do use scripts and plug-ins and yes I am cramped, but I knew that going in. DAZ didn't hide that. Even though I do not have a computer science degree I read the Evergreen thread first and then made the decision to go ahead. I still have my Beta versions of 4.23.0.3 installed on all my machines. I have lost nothing. It I have to, I could develop a work method to start a file in one version of D|S and then open it in the other version depending on what I want to do.
If you look at the Commercial threads there are PAs mentioning that they are working on their scripts even now, taking the chance that their work will not be too wasted as the Alpha progresses. Unfortunately, some of the scripts that are or were available in the store will not able to be updated as the PAs are deceased. So maintaining the older versions of D|S will be wise.
As animator I'm definitely dead without my scripts and plugins. That's why I hope the Devs will make something about it, like a converter or a software bridge.
DAZ Studio si really good for animation BUT you need a ton of stuff. Like any other software, after all...
7:24 And we build upon the Rock by taking no thought, going the second mile, total reliance, etc. Blessings!
Well said. I do think someone said 3DL would be discontinued because the version of 3DL in DS is very old and out of date. Updating would break the existing shaders due to 3DL language changes. I get more info here than from official announcements, so you're probably correct about that.
Right, the current version of 3Delight in DS is the latest using Renderman Shader Language, anything later would use ttoally different code and would therefore be no better than Iray for compatibility. Unfortunately, just as it was not possible to get a version of the new Iray for 50x0 cards that could be used with DS 4, it is not possible to get a version of this older 3Delight that can be used with DS 2025 (DS 6).
Turns out I don't rely on it.
I was critical of '25 alpha when it first launched calling it a crash fest. Now its not. Still doesn't have ASDW camera movement working, but suprised myself on not even fully needing that.
I have a few scripts I use. But pretty much every one I can just quickly launch '24 run the script on the object, save the result and then load the result straight back into what I'm working on in '25.
The default layout's menu tabs on the side does annoy me though.
