How To Apply Materials To Shoe Prop

I have these shoes: https://www.daz3d.com/rina-wedge-high-heel-shoes-for-genesis-9-and-8-female. When used as wearables, applying the optional materials is straightforward. One reason I like this PA's products is they provide the option to use the shoes as props. What I would like to do is apply the optional materials to the shoes when they're used as pops. When I try to do that, I get an error message (which I haven't been able to find in the lengthy log).

When I look at the shoes in the Surfaces pane, both as wearables or as props, the Base Color is shown as white with <?>. Does this have anything to do with the issue? Is it possible to apply the materials to the props?

They are probably hierarchal presets which means that the shoes HAVE to be parented to the correct figure in order for the materials to work.

Does this mean that the prop version of the shoes are not able to be used with the materials (i.e. only the default material)?

Not directly from the presets, but while it's a little more tedious, you should be able to copy surface parameters of a with version to the prop version. Potentially worth a customer support ticket though if something in a set isn't taking materials properly.
