Free Toon Characters – Released Early!
In case you missed the announcement on July 1st, they're now available at:
https://webboids.com
The latest version of the Webboids is always available from the front page, and new freebies are being uploaded regualrly. Check it out, and have fun!

As mentioned in another thread:
https://www.daz3d.com/forums/discussion/726366/free-toon-characters-coming-in-june/p1
I'll be sharing my Webboid toon characters, male and female characters created for me by Steve Corder (3D Universe) at the very end of June. By the "Official" release on July 01, Canada's Birthday, I hope to make or link to a tutorial on making Genesis clones for using with The Webboids (I'm not allowed to supply the Genesis 3 and Genesis 8 clones as the mesh shapes used are too similar to the shapes of Genesis meshes) and hopefully some simple clothing and hair props, with some pose sets.
This preliminary release is to allow people to try the characters out and see if they're something they can use, see if there's any issues that can be resolved before June 22 and hopefully to have fun with.
This package only contains the Webboids, simple bathing suits for clothing and a clone that will allow them to use clothing packs designed for the original 3D Univese Toon Generations; all the clothing i've tested from 3D Universe and 3Djoji so far work beautifully and if you don't own any, they're often less expensive than many others packages.

You can go to download page for a better example of how much range the characters have, but here's the base toons as they start out and after they've had their "semi-realistic" morph set to 75% with a little of the "curvy" morph dialed in for the female and a bit of the "buff" morph dialed in for the male. There's lots of options for changing the shapes of their ears, eyes and nose, their head and face shapes, body types, and more.

Thank you very much, very appreciated
You've very welcome. Later today I'll start a Commons thread with tips and tricks for the Webboids, starting with using them with Mixamo (they're working great for me, hopefully they will for others too) and some extra instructions for using Toon Generations clothing via the provided clone.
Let me know if you have any questions or run into issues.
I will look at them later but am rather overwhelmed with standalone figures to be honest but hopefully can fit some of the clothes, apply animations from other redistributabe ones to them
such as Microsoft Rocketbox, Makehuman etc
as well as create some myself
That would be great, Wendy, the more assets the merrier... but quite honestly, with all the myriad projects you have on the go, the A.i. experiments and everything else these days, not to mention your massive, non-stop Youtube video production schedule I honestly don't know how you can squeeze in any time for sleep, let alone take on *another* project! They still only have 24-hour days down under, right? You and Stezza make it seem like your days down there must be much longer...
By the sheerest coincidence, Toon Generation clothing packs are on sale today (Sunday, May 25) for the cheapest I've ever seen them, both from 3D Universe and 3Djoji; if there's anything in there that you think you might use with the Webboids, today would be the day to pick 'em up.
This is awesome... thanks for your tireless work and dedication to your project. I'll try them out in Carrara and if they work ok I may even spend some money in the Daz store

Thanks, I hope they work well for you. With all due respect, though, you should be selling in the DAZ store...
Thanks! They look excellent!
My pleasure, hopefully you'll enjoy working with them.
Hello,
If someone wants metadata for their Webboids, here the ones I created with a small text file explaining how to install them. Everything should be labelled as official products are labelled (at least the ones I have with similar items in them) and the easiest way to find them in Smart Content is to search for 'Webboids'.
No icon because I don't have the content to create one myself but there is a '380x494' placeholder JPEG picture.
Thanks very much for taking the time to put this together and share it, it's very helpful. I admit my initial upload package is very "bare bones" and this is worth having.
Thankyou for this fantastic toon characters and for free. So much appreciated!
You're very welcome, I hope you enjoy them.
Thank you wsterdan for sharing your toon characters, they look beautiful and useful! :)
Thanks also to Elor for the metadata. :)
You're welcome, have fun!
Great news! Petege has written a script that will allow you to copy a Genesis 8 character’s pose to a Webboid!
I've added an "Add-ons and Updates" section at the bottom of Webboids download page where you can read a desciption of his script and download it. I tested it on a few fairly extreme poses (with some fairly extreme morphs) and it works very well; it makes working with the Webboids a lot easier, and I'm always looking for "easier".
Thanks, Petege!
You are welcome. I will look to update the script later that it can also convert animations.
Looking forward to it!
Petege has delivered a significant update to his script
The old script has been removed and his new one has been uploaded in its place on the Webboids download page at the bottom in the "Add-ons and Updates" section.
The new script allows you to use either Genesis 3 or Genesis 8 figures and poses and is smart enough to convert whichever one you use. It works pretty much the same, you add a Genesis 3 or 8 character to your Webboid scene, apply a pose to it, select it and then control-select (or command-select on a Mac) your Webboid and run the script.
Extra features now include the ability to copy poses from one Webboid to another, and the "undo" feature now should work reliably. That's a big one for me, since 1984 "undo" has been my best friend.
Thanks again, Petege, for helping make the Webboids easier and hopefully more fun to use!
Besides providing us with his very useful scripts, Petege has found an issue with the Webboids upload. I'd found the same issues, but I'd assumed it was something I'd done to my installed characters and I, being me, was too lazy to double-check the original package provided to me.
The base Webboids – both male and female – have their limits for translation, rotation and scale turned "on". Everything still works, but you'll notice if you go to move, rotate or scale them in any way the numbers leap up very fast and your characters either jump to a thousand meters off-screen or spin insanely, etc.
I've fixed the full package and uploaded it to the Webboids download page if you want to have the updated package.
If you want to do it yourself, it involves stepping through the General/Tranforms for Translation X, Y and Z, for Rotation X, Y and Z, and for Scale and unticking the little "Use Limits" box (shown here as still "on").
For the Scale, leave the "As Percent" ticked, unless you'd prefer not to use percentages when dialing in scale (shown here as still ticked "on").
Thanks, Petege, for letting me know.
If anyone else finds some issue, please let me know either by PM or by posting here and I'll try to deal with it as quickly as I can.
Will the meta data also have to be updated?
Elor can correct me if I'm wrong (I haven't worked much with metadata to date) but I don't believe you'll have to update things for the base package update.
Ok great and I don't recall seeing any posts about updated metadata. I also know very little about it, other then it exists lol
I have yet to install the update, but looking at its content, the updated package seems to includes the same files inside the same folders and what was changed is the content of some of them.
If it's the case, as far as I understand metadata, no update should be necessary: the roles of each file and the links between them should still work.
Great, thanks for letting us know.
a walk for Webboids

silly video, awful Plask mocap at the end will only be shared if insisted on
hair and dress WIP
needs much more progress
Oh, she's delightful! That's a cute little video, thanks for sharing that. I'm way behind on getting more stuff ready for the Webboids, but this should kick me back into gear, thanks.
Let me know if you'd like me to add it to the download page, and if so, how you'd like it written up.
you can do what you like with the walk, it's a tad brisk sadly,
I only included the Canegie Melon text because that's in the readme with the original BVH I retargetted
there are lots more but I need to first convert them to iClone or Unreal and haven't yet
I think your animation is delightful Wendy and patiently wait for any other animations you have to offer and the dress and hair
